German pension claims rejected by government

I worked in Germany from 1966 to 1974, contributing to my 'rentenversicherung' (pension insurance). This was taken directly from my pay. I recently sought to apply for my pension from the German government. It has refused to make any payment to me, claiming that a refund was issued to me in 1976. I never received any such refund. They have failed to provide any proof that the money was refunded. TT

Phone firm says they will stick by goodwill gesture

Monday, 17 September 2012

In August 2011, I took out a 24-month mobile phone contract with Three, at a cost of £28 a month. I will be travelling from January next year for five or six months. I knew this when I signed my contract and the salesman informed me that I would be able to downgrade my contract to a £15-a-month tariff for that period with no penalties, as I will not be using my phone at all whilst away. But when I phoned Three to discuss this, the call handler told me its policy of accepting contract downgrades expired in December 2011.

Driven up the wall in bid to claim car insurance refund

Monday, 30 July 2012

I insured my son's car with Budget Insurance in April 2011. The policy was in his name, but I paid the premiums. On April 25 I received policy renewal documents from Budget. I rang Budget to inform them that I did not wish to renew the policy as the car was off the road and about to be sold. The call centre operative asked me when the car had been taken off the road and if there was a SORN [Statutory Off Road Notification]. I said there was.

Monday, 25 June 2012

If the economy is going to recover quickly then small businesses need to kick-start the recovery, but credit is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain as banks tighten the flow of credit to only those who are most likely to pay back the debt with no late payments or issues.

Why did my tickets get cheaper after booking?

Monday, 30 April 2012

Virgin Trains advises customers to book 12 weeks in advance to obtain the lowest fares. But when I followed this advice, I ended up worse off. I am running the Edinburgh marathon in May. So I booked a one-way ticket from Manchester to Edinburgh on May 26 as soon as the 12-week booking window opened on February 25. This cost me £59.90, plus £1 booking fee. On March 13 I booked another train journey and found the journey I had previously booked now cost £25. KM

• Getting blood from a stone while the fat cats roam free

De Valera never said that "Labour must wait". Not in so many words. But he might as well have. Similarly, Alex Maskey hasn't exactly declared that "welfare recipients must wait". But that's what his words mean.

• Boris is good fun but the joke will be on him when Tory toads turn

We need to talk about Boris. And let me make clear immediately that we mean no ill to the Conservative Party. We do, however, wish it to be dead.

• Despite his blind spot Poots does have vision

Edwin Poots has a blind-spot when it comes to his continuing ban on gay blood transfusions, his espousal of creationist displays and his determination to tighten up still further on abortion.
