Saturday, 22 September 2012
We've had a week of frenzied debate regarding Kate Middleton's bare breasts now and it's clear the only people who think she's not entitled to sunbathe topless in a private place without having to worry about pictures being beamed around the world are greedy magazine proprietors, greedy lawyers and misguided Royal family haters.

If someone killed my child I'd want them to hang, but I would be wrong

How Murray served up an answer to his critics
Saturday, 15 September 2012
A few weeks ago, I was sure nothing Andy Murray could do would eclipse this year's great Olympians. I had Bradley Wiggins nailed on for Sports Personality of the Year. But the more I think about it, the more I'm knocked out by Murray's astounding year.

Sorry, but I know that being a mum has made me a far better writer
Saturday, 15 September 2012
It's not often an afternoon radio book programme causes a twitterstorm violent enough to send the BBC cyber-croissants crashing through the stratosphere. But when Radio Scotland's Book Cafe asked 'Does motherhood make women better writers?' this week they were accused of all kinds of misogynistic barbarism for daring to pose such a 'repellent' question.

I'm worried about Mitt Romney's wife. Why, you ask - the Republican presidential candidate's spouse Ann looked to be on good form when she took to the podium to tell America why it should vote for her husband this week.

Ken, gays deserve our respect, just like Paralympians
Saturday, 1 September 2012
Isn't it incredible to think that those about to be celebrated like the most noble of kings and queens at the Paralympic Games would have been hidden away, or even paraded as circus freaks, only a few decades ago?

I'm in thrall to Nasa's Curiosity rover and the incredible pictures of Mars it has gifted us. I imagine Curiosity like Pixar's Wall-E, with big doleful ET eyes and a thirst for knowledge as heart-rending as that of a joyously excitable little boy on his first day at school.
