Police stated that polish fans hell bent on trouble started the trouble at the Northern Ireland match. Previous posters have said that Northern Ireland is followed by bigoted thugs and that Northern Ireland football is surrounded by sectarianism/racism. These are just narrow minded, untrue comments from people not in the real world and who i don't see posting about bigoted thugs hijacking and burning vehicals and murdering human beings. Who's communities are they from and letting down? The silence is defeaning.

• Hard lesson for men afraid to show us their soft side

Men are on their way out. According to a provocative new book by American journalist Hanna Rosin, The End of Men, women have adapted successfully to modern socio-economic changes, leaving men on the sidelines, feeling dismayed, out-performed and redundant in more ways than one.

• Traffic in city on road to nowhere

Belfast On The Move? It was hard to suppress a grim chuckle at the mordant irony as the city's traffic ground to a halt due to the posturing of our leaders.

• Heavens above! What on earth could this celestial sight mean?

In ancient times the sight of a shooting star or comet was always greeted with superstition.

• Why all these apologies are such a sorry state of affairs

I beg your pardon. I'm so sorry. Please accept my apology. There, I've got that off my chest, we can relax now. I've decided to get the offers of apology in early doors in any conversation, just to save time afterwards.

• Our parties must look to 2012 and not 1912 or 1916

The Covenant centennial drums have fallen silent. The ranks of marching men and bands have melted away. The entire community can be thankful that the first major anniversary of the 21st century has passed relatively peacefully.
