Friends of the State Library of South Australia have a passion for books, documents and other items of cultural significance to the people of South Australia.

From all walks of life, the Friends have supported the State Library of South Australia (SLSA) with a tradition of cultural philanthropy over nine decades, to enrich and promote its collections and treasures for scholarly and public interest.
the Friends began work in 1932
We run various events and programs of interest to a wide South Australian audience, including the monthly Tuesday Talk which is in partnership with the State Library of South Australia.

The Friends of the State Library of South Australia is the oldest library Friends group in Australia and arguably the most active, with links to many other well established Friends of libraries around the world.

Our Australiana Publications sub-committee regularly issue very popular limited edition publications with a focus on Australia's exploration history.

Sponsors of our books receive a unique edition with a fore-edge painting (see below).

To visit the Friends in person, come to our home on the first floor, in the Institute Building on the corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue in the city, any time between 10am to 2pm Monday to Thursday.  The Institute Building is a beautiful heritage building on Adelaide's cultural boulevard.  It is part of the State Library of South Australia and close to cafes and shops.  Members may relax, read, buy a Friends' greeting card or an Australiana publication, or just take a break from a busy day.
