Impact

Optometrist Karla Zadnik has experienced the rare thrill that clinician-scientists live for: the adoption of a patient-care recommendation based on findings from her research— specifically, getting kids to spend time outdoors to slow the onset of nearsightedness. That career highlight is now matched by one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine: Zadnik’s election to the National Academy of Medicine. She is being recognized for her pioneering and consequential contributions in vision science.
