"Since mid 20th century, the world tourism has been through rapid change and innovation. Leisure-time assessment method and the expectations of todayโs tourist vary, as his education and awareness level increases particularly in the Information Society. In this study, the developments in the world tourism industry and tourist profiles, incoming tourism of Turkey, travelling objectives and preference reasons of foreigners towards our country, some information about incoming visitors to Turkey coming to the years 2000s, while the world tourism experienced significant improvements, are given based on statistical data published by the institutions. Also in this study, the importance of maintenance of these types of statistics is highlighted, and necessity of effective usage of these data in evaluation in Turkish tourism development strategies is expressed.

This paper will show that the hierarchy of cities can successfully be measured not only by the number of overnight stays but also by using the โbarometer methodโ. Using the example of the tourist destination Berlin, mobility patterns recorded by GPS-tracking are differentiated by various tourist practices and explained simultaneously by the use of city guide books. Me-thodologically, this is done through a combination of GPS and questionnaire data and is based on the ideas of the theoreticians Giddens and Bourdieu. The results of principal component analysis show that Bourdieu's ideas can be successfully applied to the phenomenon of tourism in general, and that the paradox between individual tourism and mass tourism in the sense of Giddens can explain the spatial impact of tourists. The conclusion is: strategies at the indivi-dual level lead at the macro level to a mass tourism phenomena.

This paper examines key developments in recent tourism mobilities research. It begins by outlining the recent conceptualisation of tourism mobilities, arguing that it is not just that tourism is a form of mobility like other forms of mobility but that different mobilities inform and are informed by tourism. It then examines work which has been developed in terms of materialities, autmobilities and new technologies. It concludes by discussing mobile methodologies and some thoughts on future research directions.

"""Although consumer behaviour is one of the most researched areas in the field of tourism, few extensive reviews of the body of knowledge in this area exist. This review article examines what we argue are the key concepts, external influences and opportune research contexts in contemporary tourism consumer behaviour research. Using a narrative review, we examine the consumer behaviour literature published in three major tourism journals from 2000 to 2012. Of 519 articles identified and reviewed, 191 are included in this article. We examine the development of and scope for future research on nine key concepts, including decision making, values, motivations, self-concept and personality, expectations, attitudes, perceptions satisfaction, trust and loyalty. We then examine three important external influences on tourism behaviour, technology, Generation Y and the rise in concern over ethical consumption. Lastly, we identify and discuss five research contexts that represent major areas for future scholarship: group and joint decision making, under-researched segments, cross-cultural issues in emerging markets, emotions and consumer misbehaviour. Our examination of key research gaps is concluded by arguing that the hedonic and affective aspects of consumer behaviour research in tourism must be brought to bear on the wider consumer behaviour and marketing literature.

Tourism has become part of the 'development' agenda. As an agent of post-modernity, tourism helps increase the commodification of what were previously regarded as uncommodified matters of social life. Accordingly, 'development' is now a tourist commodity in many localities in the so-called 'South', where the tourists in turn assume a moral consumer style. This paper is primarily about (strategic) representations of the tourist-other as a protagonist of assistance in the realm of what I call developmentourism. My argument is to a large degree empirical, based on two villages in Mozambique. In particular, the two cases studied indicate the interlaced relationship between tourism and 'development', and its repercussion on the discursive activity and representations of the members of the two villages. Moreover, both cases analysed in this paper inform the broader non-governmental economic and moral order in which they are situated.

The primary purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between Facebook usage and the corresponding impact on travel relationships within the hostel and backpacker community. An online survey was administered to backpackers which were both hostel and Facebook users by way of travel-centric online communities. The impact of Facebook on backpacker behaviors, decision making, and relationships was examined. Analysis indicates that Facebook is shaping the evolution of social, behavioral, and communicative norms within the backpacker hostel environment and that there is still a gap in the research that examines the impact of social networking websites on the hostel experience.

This study seeks to explore attributes affecting the level of tourist satisfaction with and loyalty towards theatrical performance in China. Based on four focus group discussions with 31 participants, the study identifies 34 attributes that affect the level of tourist satisfaction with theatrical performance, and groups them into five categories: stage, performance, venue, service and tourist-related attributes. The findings on tourist loyalty reveal that 21 of the 31 respondents would not watch the same theatrical performance alone in the future; however, they would recommend it to others. The study concludes with a discussion of the rich and insightful findings and their implications for tourism industry practitioners. Copyright ยฉ 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Destinations are more likely to be successful if they recognize the experiential qualities of their offerings. However, with some exceptions, research into the emotional content of the destination experience remains largely underexplored. This current research addresses this lacuna and empirically investigates the dimensions of touristsโ emotional experiences toward hedonic holiday destinations. Adopting a rigorous scale development procedure, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses identify three salient dimensions to represent the Destination Emotion Scale, namely, joy, love, and positive surprise. In addition, touristsโ emotional experiences are related to satisfaction, which in turn has a significant influence on behavioral intentions. Findings offer important implications for destination marketers in relation to branding and emotional experience management.

Self-image congruence helps explain and predict different facets of consumer behavior. To date, application of self-congruence theories to tourist post-travel evaluations is limited. This study tests a model that includes self-image congruence, cruise ship passengers' experiences, satisfaction, and behavioral intention. Path modeling tests the hypotheses using a sample of 169 cruise ship travelers. Results indicate that self-image congruence (actual and ideal) affects passengers' experiences but indirectly influences satisfaction levels. Satisfaction positively relates to respondents' propensity to recommend. Overall, this research advances the understanding of cruise ship passengers' experiences and behaviors offering important managerial implications.
