"Abstract and Multimedia:  Adi's Abstract: Those concerned with the study of African political economy and 'development' often have neglected those ideas that emerged from the African Diaspora, while those who study the African Diaspora have often been more concerned with issues of 'identity' than with the political future of Africa. This paper argues that for those whose main concern is the study of anti-colonialism, it is often difficult to separate the history of Africa and the Diaspora during the colonial and neo-colonial periods of the 20th century. Many key anti-colonial ideas were developed as much in the Diaspora, and often in capitals of Europe, as they were within the African continent. Ideologies such as Pan-Africanism, which developed mainly within the Diaspora, the thinking of Frantz Fanon and others, as well as the liberation struggle in Africa, created the basis for alternative strategies for the anti-colonial struggle in Africa but also for a modern African political theory, a necessary requirement for people centred development in post-colonial African states. / Multimedia Part 1 -  http://www.multimedia.ualberta.ca/content/10130.321.mov

THE INSIDE STORY

*****My Comments: I just stumbled upon this site searching for a recent text on teaching writing.  Perhaps indicative of future academic library websites, this one has books published in the recent past and long ago.  I downloaded a 19th century (c1820) memoir, an archival source, of course, of an English abolitionist whom I am researching.*****

Africans constitute a rather small minority among the migrants to Russia. It appears that their numbers, as well as their impact on society at large, will probably never become comparable to those of migrants from former Soviet republics, or even from some other countries, such as China. At the same time it is evident that the inflow of Africans to Russia is growing, and they are becoming more noticeable in the Russian ethnocultural landscape, and yet there is still only a handful of studies on Africans in post-Soviet Russia. Our project of the study of the African migrants in the Russian capital megacity Moscow included two interrelated parts: The pathways of sociocultural adaptation Africans choose, willingly or forcedly, the one hand, and their perception and acceptance / non-acceptance by the receiving society (as reflected in the prevailing opinion about Africans and especially in their most typical image among native Russian citizens), on the other.
