"The purpose of this paper perceived from a sociological investigation is based on documental sources and interviews about the Syrian and Lebanese immigrants in Cali, Colombia. Approaching the matter, I will inquire about the social and economic determinants that allowed their social integration through economic activity between 1918 and 1950, being that they contribute to the process of adaptation, assimilation and social relationships with the host society as they were able to establish stores, shops, houses of import and export of products, factories, businesses and street vendors.
The creation of companies through family associations, and the mixing of the people of various nationalities were the main ways of incorporating themselves in the trade and commerce industries within the commercial networks made up of businessmen and traders, foreign and domestic in the city of Cali and nearby towns.
The notions of economic behavior and capitalist spirit (Weber, 1921 and 1905) are relevant for understanding the relationship between economic activities of immigrants and their adaptation to a new company, with participants in international migration in a period that coincides with the modernization of methods of production and distribution in the city of Cali.
