"The emergence of new digital and hybrid forms of advertisement has renewed interest in advertising-literacy education.
Teachers need high-quality educational resources in order to foster advertising literacy among their students. In this article, we review free online educational materials, using an evaluation instrument that could help users determine the quality of advertising-literacy materials. The instrument could also be used as a checklist in the development of lesson plans. We also discuss the state of the current supply of advertising-literacy materials."

The occupation of Crimea by Russia in March 2014 has become the most mediatised armed conflict in history as both sides were extremely media conscious, to the point that almost no shots were fired partly due to the sides' reluctance to be seen as the initiator of bloodshed. Mediatised warfare based on spectacle quasi social movement techniques (blockings and takovers) prevented casualties, but it also gave much advantage to the attacking side who imposed its agenda and forced the defender to assume the role and responsibility of a military aggressor on its own ground

here are heated debates occurring around the world about the big changes and huge advances which technology has performed in our society. Digital divide, digital skills, knowledge and network society, unequal resources... These are all concepts we all have in mind when we think about what is happening in our environment with developments in technology. Even more so when we consider thoroughly what is happening in the education of our offspring. Although the new digital environment offers great opportunities and possibilities of constructing knowledge, our society urgently needs different strategies in the educational system to ensure a comprehensive training in the digital age. This essay will deal with the aspects of this new emerging society emphasizing that finding, evaluating and using information will be crucial for our children´s future. The key aspect of this paper is how to empower children in their daily Internet browsing by introducing media literacy at primary school. To this end this paper will present the results of a media literacy project named "Conectados" which introduces media literacy in the classroom using one specific tool: the iPad. With this new device the project tries to enhance the instruction of children between 7-8 years of age, who are in fact daily users of the Internet.

This article reviews research on the effects of television and magazines on body image and on disordered eating attitudes and behaviors in females. Evidence from different types of studies in the fields of eating disorders, media psychology, health psychology, and mass communication indicates that mass media are an extremely important source of information and reinforcement in relation to the nature of the thin beauty ideal, its importance, and how to attain it. Although considerable research remains to be done, evidence is accumulating that repeated exposure to media and to both direct and indirect (via media's effects on peers, parents, coaches, physicians, etc.) pressures from media to be thin constitute risk factors for body dissatisfaction, concerns over weight and disordered eating behaviors in adolescent girls and young women. To guide further research, as well as the prevention and treatment of disordered eating, we present a figural summary of media effects that integrates moderating and mediating factors such as internalization of the thin beauty ideal, social comparison, and activation of the thinness schema. We argue that risk factor research, prevention, and treatment will benefit from systematic research designed to clarify how the impact of various mass media is shaped by source and receiver/perceiver factors.

The portrayal of Hispanics in American film and television has focused traditionally in negative stereotypes of the worst values and traditions of the Spanish-speaking communities in the country, with a racist and prejudiced misrepresented focus, a sample of the superficiality and hatred by some in the media industry. Recent examples show that our theory is not so far from reality as we all do want.
