Examining these forms, the essay analyzes the phenomena of the emergence and development of a specific halakhic tradition. This tradition is based on the diverging statements of
different rabbinic authorities, scholarly traditions, or groups. As a hermeneutic method, it was developed in the Talmud and was called Oqimta in the late Amoraic period. Following the introduction and the description of the hermeneutic pattern in Tannaitic texts, the essay develops a critical comparison of the pattern’s transformation within parallel traditions in Mishna (mPea

"ABSTRACT:
This study assumes the subject's pursuit of meaning is generally incapacitating and should be suspended. It aims to demonstrate how such a suspension is theoretically accomplished by utilizing Lacan's formulae of sexuation integrated with his work in discourse theory and topology.
Part I places this study into context by examining scholarship from the established fields of hermeneutics, phenomenology, (post)structuralism, aesthetic theory and psychoanalysis in order to extract out their respective theory of meaning. These theories reveal that an historical struggle with meaning has been underway since the Reformation and reaches near crisis proportions in the 20th century. On the one hand this crisis is mollified by the rise of Heideggerian-Gadamerian hermeneutical phenomenology which questions traditional epistemological approaches to the text using a new ontological conceptualization of meaning and a conscious rejection of methodology. On the other hand this crisis is exacerbated when the ubiquitous nature of meaning is itself challenged by (post)structuralism's discovery of the signifier which inscribes a limit to meaning, and by the domains of sense and nonsense newly opened up by aesthetic theory. These historical developments culminate in the field of psychoanalysis which most consequentially delimits a cause of meaning said to be closely linked to the core of subjectivity.
Part II extends these findings by rigorously constructing out of the Lacanian sexuated formulae a decidedly non-hermeneutical phenomenological approach useful in demonstrating the sexual nature of meaning. Explicated in their static state by way of an account of their original derivation from the Aristotelian logical square, it is argued that these four formulae are relevant to basic concerns of textual theory inclusive of the hermeneutical circle of meaning. These formulae are then set into motion by integrating them with Lacan's four discourses to demonstrate the breakdown of meaning. Finally, the cuts and sutures of two-dimensional space that is topology as set down in L'étourdit are performed to confirm how the very field of meaning is ultimately suspended from a nonsensical singular point known in Lacanian psychoanalysis as objet a. The contention is that by occupying this point the subject frees himself from the debilitating grip of meaning."

The lecture will treat the relationship of various maskilim in Eastern
Europe (especially Isaac Bear Levinsohn) to kabbalistic literature and will focus on their assumption about the authenticity of part of Jewish esoteric literature. This assumption not only sparked the active resistance of those maskilim to the Hasidim but also fostered certain forms of historical and textual criticism of kabbalistic literature. This observation will uncover new facets of the Haskalah movement and will demonstrate its affinities to
romantic literature. It will further expose certain precedents for kabbalah scholarship in the Scholem's scholarship and those who followed his lead.

The exegesis of any biblical text is only as good as the text it examines. This thesis will lay out the case for the feasibility and utility of an eclectic text of the Hebrew Bible.
First it explains the necessity and goal of textual criticism, while noting the unique challenges that textual critics of the Hebrew Bible face.
It then surveys the methodologies that have been proposed for producing critical editions of the Hebrew Bible. This is followed by an analysis of the three main Hebrew Bible critical editions currently in progress, namely, Biblia Hebraica Quinta, the Hebrew University Bible, and the Oxford Hebrew Bible. Therein the methodology of each project is examined. These examinations serve to highlight the weaknesses and inadequacies of a diplomatic text, which in turn serve to highlight the utility of an eclectic text.
After showing the utility of an eclectic text, it briefly surveys the extant textual witnesses and principles that need to be exercised in order to make an eclectic text feasible. Much of this advancement is due to the discoveries in the Judean desert and the maturity of the discipline of Hebrew Bible textual criticism, which can overcome, at least in part, the unique challenges Hebrew Bible textual criticism faces.
Next a sample eclectic text is given using the previously laid out principles and methodology in order to demonstrate the utility and feasibility of an eclectic Hebrew Bible text.
In conclusion this thesis summarizes arguments for the utility and feasibility of an eclectic Hebrew Bible Text. It argues that despite the unique challenge a textual critic of the Hebrew Bible faces, an eclectic critical text is preferable to a diplomatic one for getting closer to the most pristine text. Therefore, endeavors such as the Oxford Hebrew Bible should be embraced.
