The paper will deal with the narrative structure of Sandipan Chattopadhyay’s novel Dhangsher Modhye Diye Jatra in terms of a postmodern theory of narratives in all its self-reflexive and auto-deconstructive dynamics. Set in an asylum of Dubrajpur, the novel offers a curiously inside-out narration of the manic depressive Achintya Ghoshal who claims himself to be an-other person. Featuring a complete spatio-temporal dislocation and an unreliable and random memory, the de-structured narrative wanders through the amnesiac and aphasic aporias of the psychotic narrator. What shapes itself in this narrative parambulation is a postmodernist pastiche of the popular genre of whodunit where we are looking at a series of battered stories through failed memory and cinematic jump-cuts. The sub-liminal consciousness of psychosis emerges as the metaphorical murderer and the novel becomes what can be called a “narrative whodunit”. With a pervasive critique of realistic representation [involving different art forms especially the painting as Achintya is a masterful painter], the stop-gap narrative combines a psychic polyphony of voices and a metafictional commentary on the genre of the novel and the author function.  An intertextual link between Vincent Van Gogh’s letters to his brother Theo from Saint Rémy asylum and Achintya’s brother’s letters to him further complicates and obfuscates the conventional realistic narrative. One of Van Gogh’s letters to his brother is cut up into Sandipan’s text. Using Jameson’s Lacanian leads on psychotic language-disturbance and a schizophrenic splitting of the time-space coordinate as integral to the postmodern condition, the paper will read the anti-narrative of  Dhangsher Modhye Diye Jatra, in the process, throwing some light upon the cultural appropriation of Western postmodernism into the Indian vernacular literary tradition of Bengal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Identity is one of the key topics in contemporary postmodernist criticism. Many authors, either theorists or creators, have focused on this subject to add their own ideas in such an abstract concept. Enrique Vila Matas’ Doctor Pasavento explores the complexities of the individual’s identity. This essay aims at reflecting on the contemporary concept of identity that this novel may be said to portray. In these pages, an overview of the «theory of identities' chest» is offered for a possible reading of Vila-Matas’s text, considering such different but meaningful topics as the importance of one’s name, identity as a «journey», or the difficulty for separating the diegetic ontologies of reality and literary fiction."

The AMANDA neutrino telescope has been in operation at the South Pole since 1996. The present final array configuration, operational since 2000, consists of 677 photomultiplier tubes arranged in 19 strings, buried at depths between 1500 and 2000 m in the ice. The most recent results on a multi-year search for point sources of neutrinos will be shown. The study of events triggered in coincidence with the surface array SPASE and AMANDA provided a result on cosmic ray composition. Expected improvements from IceCube/IceTop will also be discussed.

The military body holds a fascination for the fashion media. In this chapter I explore two main currents in the relationship between fashion and military dress. The first concerns what the media ironically terms ‘military chic’; how fashion discourses continually draw upon military themes to exploit the spectacle of war. The second involves a different kind of dressing up when soldiers are paraded in the popular media wearing the latest army gear. A key idiom through which care for the soldier’s body is expressed, this ‘fashioning the body’ theme is an ideal strategy to mobilise public opinion to support military interventions. Through these two main currents, the chapter as a whole argues that the constant dialogue between fashion and uniform reflects a desire to embody war on the home front.

This paper analyzes the hybridity as a postcolonial strategy in Louise Erdrich’s novel Love Medicine. Pluralizing the real in a typically postmodern way, Love Medicine demonstrates hybridity on both the poetological and hermeneutical planes. Subsuming postmodern narrative conventions into a native epistemology, Erdrich navigates between the two symbolic systems, dynamizing conceptual dialogue and the postcolonial effect of appropriation, abrogation, and rearticulation of Western symbols. Through the procedures of discontinuity, permutation, contradiction, repetition, and excess, she invites multiperspectivity, fragmentation, and narrative disintegration to emphasize the unity of characters, motifs, and themes, as well as the episodic and cyclical nature of oral storytelling. In the process, Erdrich’s text pursues conceptual translation and mediation, dissolves its own horizon of reception, and reeducates its audience, positioning the Western reader as a recipient of oral storytelling. In this way Erdrich utilizes the postmodern procedure and the concept of an active reader to stimulate the ontological switch. Using the technique of the short-circuit and the postmodern assumption of the constructed nature of identity, akin to the trickster discourse, she challenges the imperial figuration of Indianness, deconstructing the trope of the “Vanishing Indian.” Thereby, she manifests the decolonizing potential of postmodern discourse.

""The social discourse revolves around signifiers. If the « great narratives » (Lyotard, 1979) of the emancipation structured the modern society, their disappearance characterizes our new modernity and make way for the proliferation of little narratives, co-extensive to the discourse of clans and cults. Those « fixions » (Ronell, 2009) – made up of signifiers structured according to an addictive and adhesive modality -, trap the subject into a discursive web which is not under the symbolic castration.

The racial trouble that affected the well-known ‘Aboriginal’ author and academic Mudrooroo politicised the Australian identity debate at the close of the 1990s. The questioning of the ‘authenticity’ of the Indigenous ancestry of some public figures was part of the backlash against the Aboriginal minority under conservative rule, and Mudrooroo was undoubtedly its most emblematic target. Unable to substantiate his claim to Indigenous descent, he was forced to relinquish his frontline position as an Aboriginal representative in the debate on Australianness, and to move to, and eventually beyond, the margins of Australia's cultural and geographical space. Yet, his fin-de-siècle vampire trilogy represents the author's return to the discursive space of Australianness from a haunted and haunting identitarian non-location. This paper analyses how the Mudrooroo Affair came about, how it was inscribed in determinist notions of race as well as gender and class, and how Mudrooroo's latest fiction has responded to the issue of identity formation through the employment of the Gothic figure of the vampire, engaging with questions of identity politics in ways which resonate with Derrida's work on spectrality.
