In the present paper we discuss Gödel’s incompleteness theorem(s) and plausible implications to artificial intelligence/life and human mind. Perhaps we should agree with Sullins III, that the value of this finding is not to discourage certain types of research in AL, but rather to help move us in a direction where we can more clearly define the results of that research. Gödel’s incompleteness theorems have their own limitations, but so do Artificial Life (AL)/AI systems. Based on our experiences so far, human mind has incredible abilities to interact with other part of human body including heart, which makes it so difficult to simulate in AI/AL. However, it remains an open question to predict whether in the future AI research including robotics science can bring this gap closer or not. In this regard, fuzzy logic and its generalization –neutrosophic logic- offer a way to improve significantly AI/AL research.

"Well-graded asphalt mix with the merits of high sound absorption, low water permeability, excellent strength, and easy construction is an important option for high-speed railway substructures. On the basis of finite element method, a model with conventional ballasted trackbed (T0) and four ballasted trackbeds models withdifferent positions of asphalt layer were analyzed, in which 15 cm thick asphalt layer was used to replace the different sub-track layers, the bottom and the top of upper subgrade and of ballasted trackbed, named as T1, T2, T3, and T4, respectively. The results showed that the range of peak vertical accelerations on the top of subgrade surface of T2 and T4 were smaller than T1 and T3; T1 and T2 perform better in decreasing the maximum vertical deformation of subgrade than T3 and T4; the maximum transversal tensile strain of T4 is almost twice than the other three. The trackbed bears more stress when the asphalt layer is located at the lower part of railway trackbed."

The article first describes characteristics of major infrastructure projects. Second, it documents a much neglected topic in economics: that ex ante estimates of costs and benefits are often very different from actual ex post costs and benefits. For large infrastructure projects the consequences are cost overruns, benefit shortfalls, and the systematic underestimation of risks. Third, implications for cost–benefit analysis are described, including that such analysis is not to be trusted for major infrastructure projects. Fourth, the article uncovers the causes of this state of affairs in terms of perverse incentives that encourage promoters to underestimate costs and overestimate benefits in the business cases for their projects. But the projects that are made to look best on paper are the projects that amass the highest cost overruns and benefit shortfalls in reality. The article depicts this situation as ‘survival of the unfittest’. Fifth, the article sets out to explain how the problem may be solved, with a view to arriving at more efficient and more democratic projects, and avoiding the scandals that often accompany major infrastructure investments. Finally, the article identifies current trends in major infrastructure development. It is argued that a rapid increase in stimulus spending, combined with more investments in emerging economies, combined with more spending on information technology is catapulting infrastructure investment from the frying pan into the fire.

Automated traders operate market shares without human intervention. We propose a Trading Team based on atomic traders with opportunity detectors and simple effectors. The detectors signalize trading opportunities. For each trading signal, the effectors follow deterministic rules on when and what to trade in the market. The detectors are based on Partial Least Squares. We perform some trading experiments with twelve BM&FBovespa stocks. The empirical findings indicate that the proposed trading strategy reaches a 77.26 % annualized profit, outperforming by 380.07 % the chosen baseline strategy with a 16.07 % profit. We also investigate Multistock Resolution Strategy (MSR) performance subject to brokerage commissions and income tax. Whenever the initial investment is at least US$ 50, 000, the MSR strategy provides a profit of at least 38.63 %.► We propose Weighted Interval Scheduling for trading team composition. ► Our trading team is multistock and multiresolution. ► The trading team is based on atomic traders with opportunity detectors. ► The detectors are based on Partial Least Squares. ► Regarding profit, our strategy outperforms by 380% the baseline.
