The first, mostly individual step of the EU on the field of international crisis-management is clearly a landmark on the road to an efficient and approved CSDP. In my paper I tried to assess the activities of the European Union in relation to the Georgian-Russian conflict in 2008. The main focus is on the security policy instruments: the EU Monitoring Mission Georgia, the EU Special Representative for the crisis in Georgia, the Independent International Fact-finding Mission on the Conflict in Georgia and last but not least the international talks in Geneva. After analysing them one can say that they are still not adequate response to the emerging challenges the EU, and the world is facing recently, but we can still consider them as a ray of hope: the bloodshed ended, the parties engaged in negotiations, IPRMs were launched, a certain level of consolidation has started. However the talks in Geneva are stuck. Although the EU was proud to present a security strategy in 2003, its significance is not proven by the time passed. A list of achievements is not suitable to be a guideline for dealing with present and future challenges.

The first part of the report is devoted to the most important issues of the history of Georgia studies in the system of Higher education and Academy of Sciences. The second part of the report contains data about research work in the area of Georgia studies by graduates of Theological academies. It also tells about the development of Georgia studies as a subject on curricular in Theological Academies. These items of the report are combined because research in Georgia studies conducted in Theological Academies can’t be separated from the similar work being carried out in Russian Universities and Russian Academy of Sciences. Problems arising in the process of this work often coincide. In conclusion, the authors tried to highlight the key problems connected with issues of Church research in Georgia studies.

"The Holy Land and Narratives about the
Conversion of Armenia and Georgia
The presentation intends to treat the importance of notions to the Judeo-Christians and Holy Land in the narratives concerning conversions of Armenia and Georgia to Christianity. Clarification of both issues, together with the concept of formation of the local terra sancta, helps to understand which trend related to the conversion of the first king to Christianity – Syriac and Greek – is reflected in the local sources as they came down to us, and to what extent the content of those narratives could be linked to the real relationship of those countries to the Holy Land.
Zeit: Mittwoch, 26. 3. 2014, 18.30 Uhr
