The content and emphasis of the introductory technology courses for undergraduate pre- service teachers has historically been examined, with the earliest study conducted by Stracke in 1932. In an attempt to identify trends in the course DeKieffer conducted a series of studies over ten year intervals, in 1947, 1957, 1967, and 1977. In 2000 the first in a similar series of ten-year studies was conducted, and this 2010 study is the first update to that study. Results indicate that the introductory technology course has gone through a particularly dynamic era recently, with nearly half of all topics appearing as new in 2010. Of particular note among the new topics are SMART Boards and Web 2.0 technologies such as Blogs, Wikis, and Professional and Social Networking Sites.

Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is a crowdsourcing platform widely used to conduct behavioral research, including studies of online privacy and security. We studied how well the privacy attitudes of MTurk workers mirror the privacy attitudes of the larger user population. We report results from an MTurk survey of attitudes about managing one’s personal information online and policy preferences about anonymity. We compare these attitudes with those of a representative U.S. adult sample drawn from a separate survey a few months earlier. MTurk respondents were younger and better educated, and more likely to use social media than the representative US adult sample. Although they reported a similar amount of personal information online, U.S. MTurk workers put a higher value on anonymity and hiding information, were more likely to do so, had more privacy concerns than the larger U.S. public. Indian MTurk workers were much less concerned than American workers about their privacy and more tolerant of government monitoring. Our analyses show that these findings hold even when controlling for age, education, gender, and social media use. Our findings suggest that privacy studies using MTurk need to account for differences between MTurk samples and the general population.

Introduction:
Val Sessera is an underpopulated italian alpine valley located in the northeastern Piedmont between
the provinces of Biella and Vercelli.
We expose here the data obtained during the first and the second year of the project "Survey Alta
Val Sessera" held in 2013 and in 2014 under the scientific direction of Soprintendenza per i Beni
Archeologici del Piemonte in collaboration with Associazione Culturale "3P" and DocBi that had
as its purpose the identification of mesolithic frequentations in the Valley.
Materials and Methods:
The interpretative scheme employed starts from the one developed for Trentino and the South
Tyrolean region by Broglio and Improta. This model has already been shown to be applicable also
to the western part of the Alps within the research carried out in the area of Monte Fallere (AO).
During the campaigns, surveys in the valleys of the creeks Sessera and Dolca have been carried out
using the patterns of settlement and mobility in the alpine environment developed by K.
Kompatscher and N.M. Kompatscher, in order to identify the most interesting areas to investigate.
In the considered areas were made samplings in each place that answered to at least two of the four
parameters set by K. Kompatscher and N.M. Kompatscher about the mesolithic occupations in high
altitude areas.
The samples were carried out by performing the decortications of the turfy surfaces on an area of
50x50 cm and the subsequent restoration of the previous environmental situation. Along the paths
and in the areas where the turf was relieved or removed by the passage of cattle, we carried out
intensive surveys. For each artefact found and for each survey done we took photographic
documentation and positioning by GPS technology.
Results:
Preliminary results indicate that the valley of the Sessera creek was occupied by human groups
using knapped litich industries while we have not had similar findings in the valley of the Dolca
creek. The activities carried out led to the identification of nine sites characterized by the presence
of lithic industry made of local quartz. These frequentations should be placed chronologically after
the Late Glacial Maximum.
Conclusions :
The findings, though the technological study suggests their Mesolithic belonging, have no
diagnostic elements for a more precise chronological collocation.
The importance of the data obtained from these first two years of the project "Survey Alta Val
Sessera" consists in having successfully tested a method of research aimed at identifying human
frequentations at high altitude also in this part of Piedmont.
The data will be compared with those coming from the other alpine regions in attempt to obtain a
more complete picture of the Mesolithic occupation of the alpine environment.

A preventive underwater survey in September 2008 of the river bed of Ljubljanica near Sinja Gorica, Vrhnika in Slovenia revealed remains of a vessel. A closer inspection of the exposed cross-section of the vessel indicated that the vessel could be a more than 16 m long barge with flat bottom and nearly vertical side planks coupled with iron cramps. A preliminary radiocarbon analysis of the wood indicated that it was built and used ca. 2000 years ago, when the nearby vicus Nauportus was controlled by important Aquileian merchant families and played also an important role in military shifts and in passing supplies.

The barge was found close to the springs where the river emerges from the Karst underground, at a bend of the river and along the fringes of the marshland that excels the position for river traffic as well as for defence purposes. The river Ljubljanica is then flowing over the Ljubljansko barje flood plain between present-day Vrhnika and Ljubljana, i.e. Roman Nauportus and Emona.

Recently, reliable and fast open source photogrammetric software solutions for acquiring, processing, analysis and display of 3D layers of data appeared. These tools are of enormous help in modernizing the methodology of underwater archeological surveying to get better and more accurate results that in the end result in better protection of underwater cultural heritage. These tools were tested for the first time in Slovenia on the site of the Roman barge in river Ljubljanica at Sinja Gorica in October 2012. Data for the photogrammetric reconstruction was collected using underwater photography. The reconstructed 3D point cloud set then served for 3D modelling.

The Roman barge that had no cargo or other objects was first cleaned of recent sediments.  Then the shape of the visible part of the barge was documented using in parallel manual survey and photogrammetry. The 3D model derived from the photogrammetrical reconstruction was much more accurate and informative than the manually drawn documentation that contains 2D ïŹ‚oor and side views, 2D cross sections and detailed drawings of individual construction elements. The 3D model enables almost as detailed examination and analysis of the vessel as observation in situ. Even archive photographs of extremely good quality, which are still needed, cannot match the 3D model.

Fragmentation can randomly distribute animals among forest patches and across fragmented habitat
and surrounding matrix. Local populations can survive only if the colonized forest remnants are adequate and/or dispersal is possible. Subsequently, a non-random distribution can result from local populations either remaining connected but distinct (metapopulation) or merging into a single large but patchy population. Such distribution can be dictated by different aspects of fragment quality, including size and vegetation variables (e.g. tree species diversity, large-tree abundance and food plant availability). This study evaluates the population status and distribution of the Malagasy primate Propithecus verreauxi  in six spiny forest fragments of south Madagascar. Propithecus verreauxi (Verreaux’s sifaka) is a lemur particularly sensitive to habitat disruption because it is strictly arboreal (vertical climber and leaper) and has an energetically poor diet (mainly folivorous). Our results suggest that intrinsic factors (density and
sex-ratio) do not shed light on population viability (due to their heavy fluctuation) and that, among extrinsic factors, vegetation structure overrides fragment size in dictating animal distribution in the small spiny-forest fragments.

We provide a survey of a folivorous lemur,Propithecus verreauxi(sifaka),
in the Berenty Reserve, southern Madagascar. Higher densities of folivores in small
patches occur in either high-quality food areas or in less disturbed refugia. The
skewness of sex ratio, which in lemurs is often male-biased, can be critically
exacerbated in population stress. We predicted that sifaka would show higher
densities in areas where protein-rich food is abundant (prediction 1a) and in
refugium areas (prediction 1b). Owing to increased competition by brown and ringtailed lemurs and decreased food production by tamarind trees, we expected an
extremely male-biased sex ratio (prediction 2). In November–December 2006, we
counted and sexed 206 adult/subadult sifaka (49 groups) during daily walks in
different forest zones (Ankoba secondary forest, to the north, Malaza gallery/scrub
areas, and spiny forest, to the south). Sifaka may have decreased in the gallery forest
to concentrate in Ankoba (in a sort of out-of-Malaza). The area contains protein-rich
food (prediction 1a confirmed). Sifaka are proportionally more concentrated in the
spiny area than in the degraded scrub forest (prediction 1b confirmed). The sex ratio
is extremely male biased, possibly due to either high sifaka density, in Ankoba, or
food availability reduction, in Malaza (prediction 2 confirmed). The sifaka
population seems to be under stress: researchers need to resume demographic
studies, interrupted in Berenty in the mid-1980s, to preservein situ a species that is
difficult to protectex situ.
