A strong correlation between the art form of car styling and ballet will be apparent when the Royal New Zealand ballet season begins in May.
French car maker Peugeot has long been renowned for styling flair and imagination when it comes to designing its cars, so it seems appropriate Peugeot should be involved in the season sponsorship of A Million Kisses to My Skin, the Royal New Zealand Balletβs new triple bill - when it opens in Wellington on May 12.
Steve Kenchington, General Manager of Sime Darby Automobiles New Zealand Ltd, the importer and distributor for Peugeot, said the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Peugeot shared similar brand values β innovation, style, dynamism and sure value.
"It is a natural progression for Peugeot to develop its relationship with one of this country's leading and most progressive arts organisations," he said.
"At Peugeot the arts play an important and fundamental role in our business," said Mr Kenchington.
The highly acclaimed Peugeot 307 is the theme model for the ballet β both have style and panache. The 307βs designer based it on the handsome Promethee prototype concept car which was first shown at the Paris international motor show.
This precursor to the Peugeot 307 underlined the fact that stylists did not want the 307 to take the form of a traditional monobox design. Instead, the preference was for a car with a dynamic appearance.
"This season showcases the dancers' skills and artistic flair in a vibrantly modern, lively and exciting performance. All these attributes apply equally to modern Peugeot passenger car designs like the 307.
"We hope our investment in the ballet promotes positive community awareness and encourages involvement," Mr Kenchington says.
Royal New Zealand Ballet Manager Sue Paterson said, "Peugeot's season sponsorship puts the Ballet in the driving seat. It gives us much needed financial support that enables us to create magic on-stage."
"In lending its name to our most adventurous season, Peugeot has shown its commitment to innovation and fresh thinking," she said.
Peugeot has supported the Royal New Zealand Ballet for three years and is a season sponsor this year for the first time.
A Million Kisses to My Skin is showing: Westpac St James Theatre, Wellington: May 12 - 15. Aotea Centre, Auckland: May 18 β 21. Regent Theatre, Dunedin: May 20. James Hay Theatre, Christchurch: May 27 - 28.
