Публикация включает три письма, обнаруженные в архиве собрания религиозного движения Новый Израиль в г. Сан-Хавьер в Уругвае и краткую сопроводительную статью к ним. Письма были получены в 1927 г. из поселения, только что созданного новоизраильтянами на Северном Кавказе, и относятся к периоду, когда отношение Советской власти к «сектантским» коллективным хозяйствам было еще благожелательным. Письма затрагивают как хозяйственные, так и религиозные аспекты жизни новоизраильской общины.
This publication includes three letters found in the archives of the New
Israel meetinghouse in San Javier, Uruguay and a short explanatory article. The letters
were received in 1927 from the settlement just established by the New Israel
members in the Russian North Caucasus. They belong to the period when the attitude of the Soviet authorities toward the “sectarian” collective farms was still benevolent.
The letters cover both economic and religious aspects of life in the New Israel community.

В статье идёт речь о рецептах обрядовой православной кулинарии, куличах и пасхах, в советское время. Кулинарные книги эпохи НЭПа свободно оперируют этими понятиями, еще являющимися естественной частью повседневности. В 30-е и 40-е годы куличи под запретом, во всяком случае, в печати о них не слышно, а в начале 50-х снова становятся частью кулинарного лексикона, поскольку воспринимаются не относящимися к религиозному обиходу, а как часть имперской национальной традиции.
This paper deals with the fate of recipes of  Orthodox ritual dishes, such as Easter cakes and paskhas, in Soviet time. The Cook books during the New Economic Policy in 1920s still have these recipes, which proves that they were a natural part of everyday life. In 1930s and 1940s  they disappeared from cook books, but in the early 1950s they returned to the new ones, e.g. the recipes of Easter cakes were published in the “Book of Tasty and Healthy Food”, an official representation of the  late Stalin era cuisine. Howewer, Easter cakes became now not a ritual dish but an element of the “national traditional culture”.

The process of forming a parish separate model in the conditions of church schism, Soviet state regulation and repression is analyzed in the article. The main stages of reforming the parish orthodox church institutions in 1920s and 1930s are emphasized. Special attention is paid to the logical interconnection and interdependence of parish governance levels. It is concluded that the parish institutes are deformed due to the antireligious policy consolidation, widespread church closure and repression of the community members in the 1930 s.

An attempt of  periodization of the history of relations between the Soviet state and the religious denominations
Abstract: This article discusses the periodization of the history of relations between the Soviet state and religious
denominations.
The author identifi ed 11 stages in the development of these relations::
1. 1917-1918 – a transitional stage that prepared the transition from old relations to new ones;
2. 1918-1929 – the stage of development of new legislation on religious cults;
3. 1929-1934 – the stage of completion of the development of legislation on cults;
4. 1934-1938 – the period of persecution, “The Great Terror”;
5. 1938-1943 – the stage of easing of pressure and uncertainty;
6. 1943-1948 – the stage of prosperity of relations between the state and the church;
7. 1948-1954 – the stage of cooling relations between the state and religious cults;
8. 1954-1958 – the stage of deterioration of relations between the state and cults;
9. 1958-1965 – a new stage of persecution;
10.1966-1987 – the stage of coexistence or stagnation;
11. 1988-1991 – the stage of normalization of relations between the state and religions.
The periodization is based on two principles: the fi rst - the institution of power, responsible for the implementation
of the religious policy of the state; the second - the legislative acts relating to the relations of the state and the
church, adopted in the relevant era. This allows, on the one hand, to trace the logical chain of events in terms of the
evolution of relations between the Soviet state and religious cults, and on the other hand, relieves of the need to
consider these relations in a purely denominational aspect.

The article is devoted to the study of one of the actual problems of the Soviet power’s internal policy: the evolution of the religious policy during the war. According to a wide range analysis of published materials and archival documents the article states that the religious policy of the Soviet power during the Great Patriotic War is characterized by some mitigation, a string of concessions, however there were no deep changes or, as some researchers believe that it lacks of “a liberal turn ” in the religious policy of the Soviet power. A certain part of actions of the Soviet power in the sphere of religion had a declarative, nominal and propaganda character.

Drawing on the methodological insights of scholars such
as James C. Scott, William Fletcher, and Sheila Fitzpatrick,
the author, by means of research into Soviet archives, correspondence,
and synodal documents and other sources, has uncovered
many details of how Bishop Feodosii Kovernynsky
and Archbishop Palladii Kaminsky not merely survived but in
many cases actively and repeatedly subverted the restrictions
placed upon their episcopal ministry in several Ukrainian
dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church from the late 1940s
until the late 1970s. Shlikhta looks in particular at daily practices
of these two men (e.g., redistricting of parish boundaries;
promoting to priestly ranks of those who were often
locally established deacons or laypeople not hand-picked by
the state to be priests; publishing prayer books in Ukrainian
rather than Russian as an ostensible tool to help “Uniates”
integrate into the official Russian Church more easily) to discover
their subaltern strategies, which, while not always
rising to the level of mass protest, major manifestos demanding
rights, or similarly dramatic defiance of the regime, were
nonetheless effective. The portrait that emerges significantly
complicates the previous narrative of “two churches” whereby
there was an officious and ideologically subservient church
under complete communist domination on the one hand, and a
rebellious, illegal underground church on the other. These two bishops reveal various quotidian strategies by which they demonstrated
how it was possible to be rebellious within the
officially permitted structures of the Orthodox Church in
Ukraine in the postwar period.

У статті проаналізовано особливості діяльності уповноваженого Ради у справах релігій по Донецькій області в період «пізньої» радянської історії (1965–1991 рр.). Окрім роботи безпосередньо з релігійними організаціями краю уповноважений Ради у справах релігій та його апарат займалися й суто «технічною» роботою, а саме: складанням звітів про діяльність, організацією лекцій з наукового атеїзму для населення, упорядкуванням статистики щодо релігійних громад, реакцією на скарги окремих віруючих тощо.
Мета статті – на основі наявних історичних джерел та використовуючи наукову літературу, проаналізувати роботу уповноваженого Ради у справах релігій по Донецькій області в адміністративній, діловодчій й освітній сферах.
Аналізуючи документи апарату уповноваженого на Донеччині, можна знайти не тільки офіційні свідчення та рапорти, але й зробити висновок щодо рівня обізнаності уповноваженого та його співробітників у релігійній сфері. Важливим напрямом діяльності Ради у справах релігій та її місцевих уповноважених була робота з юнаками, які планували вступ до вищих духовних навчальних закладів. Зокрема, уповноважений власне надавав рекомендації щодо вступу до семінарій. Окрім того важливе місце посідав орган у справах релігій в СРСР і у формуванні нової громадянської обрядовості, адже і у 60–80 рр. ХХ ст. не припинялися експерименти радянської влади у цій сфері. Акцент зроблено також на інформації, що не привертала увагу дослідників раніше – скаргах та відгуках пересічних вірян та їх аналізі уповноваженим. Зазначено, що незважаючи на інтерес до історії державно-церковних стосунків в Україні з боку вітчизняних дослідників, питання мікроісторії в цьому контексті зрідка стають предметом наукових пошуків вчених-гуманітаріїв.
