Aldi Ireland announced today a new €125 million contract with supplier Dawn Meats. This is a significant announcement, worth €25 million annually over a five-year term.   This new contract will allow Dawn Meats to recruit 15 new staff members and add six new lines to the ALDI range that we know our customers will love. They will also now accelerate a planned €5 million expansion of their facility in Waterford.   This announcement comes as Aldi Ireland marks 25 years in Ireland in 2024, which is a huge milestone that we are celebrating with our staff, suppliers, and customers. Today, we operate 161 stores across the country, with a presence in every county in Ireland, and we employ more than 4,650 people.

We are pleased to say our Free Electrical Recycling events at our Tipperary stores in partnership with WEEE Ireland were a big success! Thanks to our ALDI customers and members of the public, over 27 tonnes of waste electrical items were returned at these events. Having first become a member of WEEE Ireland in 2009, ALDI has become the leading retailer for collecting used batteries in the Irish market, collecting a total of 706 tonnes, or the equivalent to 35.3 million AA batteries. In addition to offering free take back of waste batteries at our stores, these collections events enable ALDI customers and members of the public to recycle any household items with a plug, battery or cable free of charge. ♻️ #BetterEveryday

Last Wednesday, there was great excitement as colleagues from our head office geared up, swapped desks for bikes and took part in the Barnardos Ireland Big Active Challenge. Teams went head-to-head in a bid to see which team could cycle the most km’s within 10 minutes! There was fierce rivalry as teams battled it out to be crowned the coveted title of the spin bike challenge winners of 2024 🏆. Congratulations to the marketing team who reigned supreme. 🚲 In May, some of our amazing colleagues from the Dungloe store took on the challenge of hiking up Mount Errigal, all while raising much needed funds for Barnardos Ireland. ALDI is a proud supporter of the Barnardos Big Active. Do Good, Feel Good. Because Childhood Lasts A Lifetime. #Fundraising #BarnardosIreland #BecauseChildhoodLastsALifetime

We had the pleasure of attending an insightful session on Nutrition During Menopause, presented by nutritionist, Kelly O’Connor.   The session was highly informative, highlighting the critical role nutrition plays during menopause. We gained valuable insights on dietary adjustments and essential nutrients to support our health and well-being during this important life stage.   A huge thank you to Kelly for sharing her expertise and passion with us. At ALDI, we are dedicated to fostering a supportive and informed community, and discussions like this promote our commitment to employee wellbeing.   #MenopauseAmbassadors #ALDIMeansMore

2024 marks ALDI’s 25th birthday in Ireland. To mark that significant milestone, we’re delighted to launch our Economic Impact Report, authored by DCU Professor Anthony Foley, which highlights the scale of the impact we’ve had on the Irish economy over the years, and what our unwavering commitment to value has meant for our shoppers, our suppliers and our staff.   💶 ALDI added €757 million to the Irish economy in 2023 🏗 We’ve invested more than €2 billion in capital investment since 1999 💶 We have paid more than €1.3 billion in wages over the past 25 years 👨🏼💼 We employed more than 4,650 people in 2023, and supported almost 8,000 more jobs in the economy 💶 We have spent €10 billion with Irish suppliers since 1999 📈 Purchases from Irish suppliers have grown by 58% since 2019 💸 For every 1% in lower prices, for which the ALDI presence contributes, consumers are saving at least €90 million per year   As we look to the future, we’re also pleased to announce an investment of €400 million over the next five years, that will see us open 30 new ALDI stores and create 1,000 new well-paid retail, construction and management jobs.   #ALDIMeansMore #GoAllALDI #ALDI25 https://lnkd.in/dcEmH3xv

At ALDI, we’re always looking at ways to enhance and improve the in-store experience for our customers. That’s why, this year we’re trialling self-service checkouts at 21 stores across Ireland. A number of these trial checkouts are already in operation at ALDI Monread, Naas, Co. Kildare and in some ALDI stores in Co. Dublin, including Sallynoggin, Newlands Cross and Coolock. These will operate alongside our existing checkouts. Come and check it out for yourself, let us know your experience, and keep an eye out for more self-service checkouts coming soon to a store near you. https://lnkd.in/dFmR7ygD

Yesterday we joined our partner Too Good To Go to celebrate their milestone of 1 million Surprise Bags being sold in Ireland. As their largest partner in Ireland, we’re very proud to have provided over 175,000 Surprise Bags to ALDI customers to date! It was a pleasure to mark this milestone alongside Minister Ossian Smyth and Too Good To Go Co-Founder, Jamie Crummie. Our partnership with Too Good To Go has not only been successful in addressing food waste, but has also allowed us to offer even lower prices to our customers. At ALDI, we are committed to minimising food waste and providing our customers with the most affordable range of quality products which makes this partnership work so well. A huge well done to our store colleagues for helping us to reach this significant milestone! #BetterEveryday #NationalFoodWasteRecyclingWeek
