What does it take to build a culture of readers? 📚 At the Baltimore Book Festival, #ReadingIsFreedom brought together artists, educators, families, and community leaders around two ideas that go hand in hand: inspiring a love of reading and making sure teachers have the tools and support to help every child become a strong reader. EC partner Maryland READS is building a statewide movement to help more Maryland children become confident readers. Learn more and get involved at https://lnkd.in/gCin7Gzd

“There is a huge gap between the science and what we can do in the clinic.” Dr. Alice Ruo Wei Tang 唐若薇 MD, MRCP, an Emerson Consequential Scholar and neuro-oncology fellow in the Beroukhim Lab at the Broad Institute, is working to close that gap by using 3D spatial transcriptomics to build richer maps of cancer biology, better understand therapeutic resistance, and ultimately improve how insights from the lab translate to patient care. Through Emerson Consequential Scholars, Alice is exploring how her research can move beyond the lab and toward solutions for patients.

Nonprofit #localnews has moved beyond proof of concept. Since 2019, the field has tripled in size. Our portfolio — more than 50 organizations serving over 100 communities across 38 states — has been part of that growth. Our 2026 Impact Report looks at what that growth produced. Across 28 completed three-year investments, organizations are now generating $53 million more in annual revenue than they did before their grants, have more than doubled their median annual revenue, and have added more than 250 journalists to the field. In 2025 alone, the portfolio generated $160 million in revenue — a 28% increase over 2024 — and supported 1,170 full-time jobs, including 843 journalists. 81% of organizations grew their revenue. Behind those numbers is reporting that changed policy, exposed corruption, returned money to residents, expanded access to voting and got people critical information when they needed it most. To shape the future, we’re investing in people building it. The Emerson Consequential Scholars program supports PhDs and postdocs to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, tell the story of their work, and explore how their research can live beyond the lab. Created by Emerson Collective in partnership with Sutter Hill Ventures, the program provides scholars with an entrepreneurial curriculum, mentorship, and a community of fellow researchers and builders to help turn big ideas into real-world solutions. 🚀 Excited to share TechCrunch exclusive on Anthro Energy's #Groundbreaking on our new advanced electrolyte manufacturing facility in Louisville, Kentucky! 🏭 The TechCrunch exclusive covers Anthro’s next phase of growth as we scale U.S. production of advanced electrolytes. Operation is scheduled to begin in 2028, and the facility is designed to ramp up to produce 25 GWh of electrolytes annually. The facility is being built to serve the emerging U.S. battery ecosystem with a domestic, China-free, and #FEOC-free source of advanced electrolytes. Located in the heart of America’s growing Battery Belt, the majority of existing U.S. battery production facilities are within a 12-hour drive of Louisville. The article also explores how #AnthroProteus, our advanced phase change electrolyte platform, could help pave the road to solid- and semi-solid-state batteries. Proteus is designed to flow into a battery cell as a liquid before solidifying, enabling it to integrate with existing lithium-ion manufacturing processes while delivering improved safety, energy density, and mechanical strength. As our CEO and Co-Founder David Mackanic shared with TechCrunch, “To get into big applications, you have to have big production.” Anthro was honored with distinguished guests including Andy Beshear for Governor, Congressman Morgan McGarvey, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, representative from the Office of Senator Mitch McConnell and members of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This groundbreaking is a major step toward doing exactly that, scaling the materials needed to support the next generation of batteries across mobility, robotics, drones, defense, consumer electronics, and beyond. Thank you, Tim De Chant and TechCrunch, for sharing our story. 🔗 Read the full exclusive here: https://lnkd.in/g39Vx_BE 🔗 Read Kentucky Governor Beshear’s official press release here: https://lnkd.in/gtASjYYh 🔗 Read Anthro's official press release here: https://lnkd.in/gBq6Jnsb David Mackanic Joe Papp Qudus Lawal Maya Prasad, MPA Adam McCabe Allen Churchill Joan L.
