#EOSC is featured in a new report from the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS), Open science and the effects of Generative Artificial Intelligence in scientific exchange, as part of a possible future vision for trustworthy, AI-enabled open science in #Europe. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dTmR-Jrf The report explores how generative #AI is transforming scientific exchange and presents a scenario in which EOSC is coordinated with #research integrity standards, measures to promote equitable access, science-for-policy capacities and responsible AI practices. Rather than assessing EOSC’s current performance, the report uses this scenario to illustrate how infrastructure, governance and institutional coordination could help scientific exchange remain open and reliable as AI transforms research. It stresses that openness alone is not enough: research outputs must also be traceable, verifiable and reusable. The report also warns that uneven implementation across European countries and institutions could lead to fragmentation and make collaboration more difficult. Its broader message is that the future of open science in the age of AI will depend not only on infrastructure, but also on effective governance, adequate institutional capacity and coordinated action across Europe. In this context, EOSC is presented as one element of a wider European effort to build a more trustworthy and interoperable research ecosystem. #GenAI #EUresearch #EUscience #OpenScience Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA)

The European University Association (EUA), which counts nearly 900 member organisations across 48 countries, has voiced strong support for a distinct Work Programme-based Partnership for #EOSC in the next European framework programme, #FP10. In its statement, EUA has singled out EOSC “as a particularly valuable initiative at the European level. The EOSC Partnership provides a strategic advantage that cannot be achieved as effectively through fragmented national actions”. Thank you, European University Association, for your strong support! #HorizonEurope #EUresearch #datasovereignty #EuropeanPartnership To the attention of Christian Ehler and René Repasi
Responding to a public consultation on the future of European Partnerships under the 2028-2034 Horizon Europe programme, EUA calls for a more focused, accessible and coherent partnership landscape that complements open collaborative research and preserves the core mission of the framework programme. While European Partnerships, including Joint Undertakings, may contribute to the entire research-to-deployment continuum, this should not mean that all stages are financed through Horizon Europe, as the consultation questions suggest. 🔬 Horizon Europe funding should focus on research and innovation, prioritising activities at low and medium technology readiness levels. Industrial scale-up, deployment and market uptake should be supported through the ECF or other appropriate instruments. European Partnerships must also complement, rather than replace, open collaborative research. As such, EUA calls for the majority of Pillar II funding to remain allocated to actions outside European Partnerships, as in the current programme. 🤝 EUA welcomes the intention to rationalise the partnership landscape but cautions against creating overly large and complex structures. Mergers should be pursued where they bring clear added value, while the application of sunset clauses should be strengthened. Finally, EUA highlights the European Partnership for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) as a particularly valuable initiative at the European level, and calls for it to be retained as a distinct partnership in the future European Partnerships portfolio, with its own dedicated work programme to ensure strategic coherence and continuity of support. 🔗 Read our full response to the consultation's questions at https://bit.ly/4yGTT7i EOSC Association

The EOSC Association has taken another step towards closer collaboration with the European #health research community by joining the Stakeholder Forum of the European Partnership on One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (EUP OHAMR). The health domain has enormous capacity for data-driven research, innovation, and scientific breakthroughs. Realising this potential, however, requires addressing particularly demanding requirements around privacy, security, interoperability, and the ethical and legal use of sensitive data. As the Common European Data Space for Research and Innovation, EOSC is well positioned to turn these challenges into opportunities for collaboration and discovery. Operational since 08 October 2026, the #EOSCfederation provides a federated environment that enables research data and services to be shared and reused across disciplines and borders, while respecting the specific requirements of sensitive health data. A concrete example is the federated analysis of pathogen genomes, involving the Slovak and Polish EOSC Nodes (EOSC-PL). By bringing computation to sensitive data rather than transferring datasets across borders, this initiative aims to support faster outbreak detection and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance while safeguarding #data sovereignty. It illustrates how EOSC can facilitate cross-border health research and help address shared challenges such as AMR through secure, federated data sharing. Last week, members of the EOSC Node | Slovenia team presented our plans at EOSC Symposium 2026 in beautiful Florence – and came away excited about the conversations, connections, and collaborations ahead! We were delighted to have the opportunity to speak to our international colleagues in person. We had the chance to discuss our collaboration with the Croatian (SRCE) and Latvian Nodes (VPC - Augstākās izglītības un zinātnes IT koplietošanas pakalpojumu centrs): together, we’ll embark on a Nextcloud file sync & share pilot to explore better support for researchers working across borders. File sync & share is just one of the services our node will offer. Our broader goal is to give researchers a unified entry point to repositories, collaborative tools, analysis environments and high-performance computing—supporting the full research lifecycle, from collaboration and data management to publication, preservation and reuse. By building on existing national infrastructure and connecting it to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federation, we aim to make these resources easier to access and use. EOSC Node | Slovenia is a shared national effort, shaped by the Slovenian Open Science Community. We’re proud to bring that collective expertise into international partnerships that put researchers’ needs first. Over three days last week, Europe’s growing European Open Science Cloud (#EOSC) community gathered in #Florence for #EOSCSymposium2026: three days of ideas, discussions and new opportunities for collaboration on open science, open innovation and consolidating Europe’s frontrunner position. The use and impact of AI ran through much of the event, with a brilliant keynote by Merce Crosas (well worth watching if a recording is available). How can AI help to make research data more findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (#FAIR)? And how can we harness its potential without compromising scientific rigour, transparency and trust? Big questions, explored by some of the brightest minds working on open and interoperable research data across Europe.
