Cheaper copycat versions of the popular weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Zepbound are still being marketed to consumers. The thriving market for "compounded" GLP-1 medications persists despite warnings from federal drug regulators, a recall announced by one company and inspections that uncovered contaminants such as mold and bugs at overseas factories. The recent Food and Drug Administration actions and Apothecary Pharma LLC's recall of compounded tierzepatide, the active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro, have raised safety concerns about these medications. https://lnkd.in/e5GNfPCn 📸: Art Wager, Getty Images

The former Cornell University student who accused fraternity members of gang raping her in 2024 told university faculty in a recent letter that she felt “unsupported” and “disbelieved” by the school's leaders. In an Oct. 14 letter to the faculty senate, the student, known as Jane Doe, shared a secondhand account of comments she alleges university President Michael Kotlikoff made about her case in 2024. Doe said she heard about the comments from then-president of Cornell’s Tri Delta sorority chapter. During a meeting with students and faculty, the sorority president said Kotlikoff responded to the assault allegations “along the lines of ‘why did she wait so long to report it?'” bit.ly/4i4G4sQ

A majority of Americans, including Republicans, say they do not have enough income to lead the life they want, Pew Research Center reports in a new study. The analysis, based on a survey taken in advance of the high-stakes midterm elections, finds that most Americans, regardless of political party, are struggling with rising costs. Prices are up 3.7% in the past year and about 30% since January 2020. Nearly two-thirds of Democrats and Democratic-leaning Americans said they don’t currently have sufficient income to “lead the kind of life they want,” according to the Pew report. A slender majority of Republicans and Republican-leaners – 52% – agreed with the statement. The survey found Republicans more optimistic than Democrats about their finances, but not by much. In 2025, 360,000 people applied to 2,600 intern positions at Goldman Sachs. That was a 300% increase from 2018. Hirevue, and other video and AI hiring platforms, can help recruiters cut through those increasingly large pools of applicants, but experts say there's a danger in trusting an algorithm to interview or assess candidates. In my latest for USA TODAY, I talk to the companies and the experts about what the technology actually does and why recruiters are turning to it: https://lnkd.in/gum7gzba

Millionaire renters are on the rise. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of millionaire renter households remained small compared to homeowners, but it was growing at a much faster pace, the apartment search platform found after analyzing American Community Survey estimates. Millionaire renters grew 229%, or more than tripled in just five years. That's faster than the 193% jump in millionaire homeowners over the same period. The trend marks a shift in housing preferences as affluent Americans have long favored owning, which has been a hallmark of the American Dream.
