Critics Consensus

Borrowing a basic storyline from the film that inspired it but forgetting the charm, wit, and heart, Vacation is yet another nostalgia-driven retread that misses the mark.

Wacky hijinks ensue, some of them very funny, some dipping desperately into bad taste, some just falling flat. (Which, it's worth remembering, was the case with even the best films of this franchise.)

It's hard to imagine even Hangover fans being satisfied by such middling vulgarity.

At its best, the film is very funny. At its worst, it makes you groan in dismay.

Dumb, meandering and in need of a more well realized arc, 'Vacation' is nonetheless quite funny.

[Vacation] offers some daringly extreme situations, but the 4,100-kilometer journey...is filled with formulaic scenes executed with the most basic approach. [Full review in Spanish]

Sweep the warm and fuzzy nostalgia aside, and the '83 model and this new one are comparable, mixing R-rated laughs with a semi-sincere message about the bonds that hold a family together.

The absolutely frequent gags regarding paedophilia ruin this movie completely. It's constant and horrible. What could've been a very funny film, became a cringe machine, not even trying to hide Hollyweird's obsession with children.

A genuinely funny film. While it doesn’t capture the same essence as some of the original Chevy Chase films, it still finds its own footing as its own thing. Rusty’s journey has lots of mishaps and chaotic moments, and it’s a bit more vulgar than prior films. Many cameos, and some absolutely hilarious laugh out loud moments. Recommend this one if you are looking for comedy similar to Its Always Sunny or The Office.

Loved the original. Thought this one was fresh and very funny. Lots of edgy humor.

This is absolutely one of the best movies I have ever seen. Totally underrated. It has that same dark/cynical humour that always seems to make me and the family laugh. The casting is amazing and the cow scene had me in shock (no spoilers, don’t worry) Loved it, five stars.

How the hell are there bad reviews? This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I love the original and the sequels as well, but my god this had my literally crying. My wife was trying to sleep and was so upset because I could not stop laughing. People are nuts if they didn’t like this.

Don’t listen to the critics this is a great remake and it’s hilarious. Yes of course it’s ridiculous and absurd but that’s the entire point. If you want something silly to put a smile on your face then watch.
