We were rejected for delightfully logical reasons, like insufficient argument for why 'last year's workshop was very successful with a queue outside throughout' implies future success

Or that the field has made insufficient progress (but also, in the same review, that there's lots going on and we'd get lots of contributed work) Ah, peer review. Hopefully NeurIPS has better judgment!
Disappointing. It's worth saying explicitly: The people disadvantaged by this will be academics, and especially students. For those of us in industry, participating in workshops is optional. But for our academic peers, it's important for their careers.
