Rachel Rosen, a former BBC Radio host, is making a show about a mysterious find in a dig near Abel. She gives a brief potted history of Abel before heading towards the location of the dig.

There is no BBC

The Thoughts Get In 1

Rachel plays tape of an interview with Sam, who tells her that the Abel team had been digging turnips when they found something metal. They assumed it was unexploded munitions – but instead uncovered what appeared to be gold.

Moral mascot of Abel

The Thoughts Get In 2

Now Rachel plays an interview with Amelia, who claims some expertise in valuable artefacts – most of it gained in questionable ways. She says the uncovered object was a Roman eagle, but Rachel starts to feel faint before she can play the rest of the tape.

A Roman eagle

The Thoughts Get In 3

Rachel is hearing whispers, unsure if they’re in her mind, and believes a distant figure is following her. Disturbed, she plays more of the Amelia interview, which reveals that the eagle was found to be clutched in the dead hand of a skeleton – one with only half a head.

A figure still watching

The Thoughts Get In 4

Rachel has found herself drawn to a cave where she hopes it will be cool and calm. But she remains rattled, and when she plays more recordings of Amelia and Sam, they aren’t saying what she remembers. She resolves to flee the cave.

Dark stone walls

The Thoughts Get In 5

Turned around and confused, Rachel is lost in the caves. The whispers are getting louder and as her broadcast fades, a figure with only half a head enters the cave…

Stop Whispering at Me!

The Thoughts Get In 6

A weird broadcast gave me the creeps – but I think it might be important.

A long-lost radio show sheds light on a troubling mystery.

The Thoughts Get In

Ernie’s lent you his diving suit. Sam’s worried about its integrity, but with the countdown approaching zero, you have no choice. You have to head into the water and stop the dam overflowing.

Into the water

The Mother of all Storms 1

You walk the grounds of the drowned mansion as Sam worries he’s forgetting old Abel. But that statue isn’t a statue – it’s a zombie, and you need to run.

Fish swimming through windows

The Mother of all Storms 2

You’ve made it inside the dam and left the zombie behind. Now you need to find the first valve to ease the water pressure. Sam will guide you – it’s a real warren in there.

It’s dark in there

The Mother of all Storms 3

Sam hears a noise he fears may be a zom, but it’s too dark to see. He plays you the countdown, ticking down the minutes – until it suddenly speeds up. You’ve got even less time than you thought!

It’s speeding up!

The Mother of all Storms 4

After turning the first valve, you head towards the second. Sam tells you everyone’s come to help with the harvest, as long as you can save it. But first you’ll need to escape that zom!

One valve down

The Mother of all Storms 5

You’ve reached the second valve, but you’re taking a big risk by stopping to turn it with the zombie in pursuit. On the ground, you find a mysterious tablet. Could it have been left by whoever sent the broadcast? The zom gives chase before you can examine it.

A zom with half a head

The Mother of all Storms 6

You escape the dam, locking the zom inside. The flood’s been prevented and, thanks to you, New Abel can reap its very first harvest. But Janine tells you there are a lot of questions that still need to be answered.

A victory and a mystery

The Mother of all Storms 7

Stopped a flood and saved our harvest, but I’m left with a lot of questions.

A countdown will end and New Abel will be drowned. Only you can stop it.

The Mother of all Storms

Sam’s guiding you to the source of the mysterious countdown, now being broadcast on the radio. It’s a rather lovely forest, but Sam remains suspicious and tells you to take care.

Bucolic to the max

Hybrid Vigour 1

Deeper in the forest, Sam wonders why there’s no birdsong and every tree is different. Ernie cuts into your signal – he’s trapped in a hole and needs your help.

No birdsong

Hybrid Vigour 2

As Ernie guides you towards his hut to fetch some rope, he explains that this forest was once the grounds of a mansion – belonging to a Victorian explorer who collected poisonous plants. You can’t touch anything!

Exceptionally virulent

Hybrid Vigour 3

As you search Ernie’s shack, he talks about the fall of New Canton and why he chose to abandon his friends. Before you leave, he asks you to collect a vial of antidote. He’s been poisoned and paralysis is setting in. You need to cure him before it stops his heart.

Cabin in the woods

Hybrid Vigour 4

You’re pursued by a zombie who resembles the mythological Green Man. The orchids growing out of him release a soporific gas – you can’t let him get too close.

The Green Man

Hybrid Vigour 5

Ernie has a plan for getting rid of the pursuing zombie. You need to lead it to the pride of his collection: a hybridised Venus fly trap, big enough to trap a zom. But it will take you too if you aren’t quick.

Venus zom traps

Hybrid Vigour 6

You reach Ernie just in time. He’s delighted to see you and resolves to make contact with his surviving friends from New Canton. In the meantime, he tells you the source of the countdown – and says he can help you reach it.

A simple solution

Hybrid Vigour 7

Rescued Ernie from a hole and had a run-in with one of his strange creations.

Your old friend Ernie has crucial information – but you’ll need to save him first.

Hybrid Vigour

Paula contacts you on your way back from a supply run. Runner 17 has spotted a civilian wandering nearby. She seems unconcerned, despite being in zombie country. Paula sends you off to find her before the zombies do.

Civilian in distress

How Much Do You Know? 1

You intercept the lost civilian, Lauren, who’s on a journey to a haven called Gladstone. Paula’s never heard of it. She asks you to escort Lauren while she looks it up.

You’re Runner Five!

How Much Do You Know? 2

Lauren guides you towards Gladstone as she talks about the reclusive settlement she hails from, and the Rofflenet forum she belongs to. You’ve picked up a zombie – Lauren isn’t worried, but she could use some cardio. Might as well speed up.

The ploughshare, the sword

How Much Do You Know? 3

Lauren drops a bombshell: she doesn’t believe in zombies. According to her forum, they’re disguised agents from a nebulous enemy. Paula loses her cool, until Lauren takes your headset. We’re attracting more pursuers, and if the enemy thinks we’re onto them, they’ll kill us.

No such thing as zombies

How Much Do You Know? 4

Lauren admits she’s an outcast from her community, who found comfort through the forum. A close encounter with a zombie rattles her, especially when she realises that it’s another forum poster. She fears Gladstone is under attack and in need of rescue – you need to hurry!

They were there for me

How Much Do You Know? 5

You reach Gladstone, and find no trace of any settlement. Paula’s worked out the truth. There’s no such place as Gladstone. It was only ever a rumour online. With Lauren lost and devastated, Paula suggests you bring her home.

Not even ruins

How Much Do You Know? 6

To reiterate: zombies are definitely real. And hungry. And usually chasing me.

An endangered traveller brings some startling revelations.

How Much Do You Know?

Paula is sending you to Blood Rock to fetch a gaming book for the RuneGaia community. As your boat docks, the fog rolls in. The hotel’s in the island’s centre and you want to reach it before night falls…

Your adventure begins

A Red Smile on a White Face 1

The hotel looks very creepy, made even worse when Paula spots a clown watching you from a top-floor window. She wants you to get in and out as quick as you can.

A marble fish screaming

A Red Smile on a White Face 2

You pass hotel reception, causing Paula a pang of nostalgia about the conventions she used to attend with Maxine. Some zombies give chase – and a huge, frightening dog. Paula doesn’t want to believe that it might be undead.

Canine catastrophe

A Red Smile on a White Face 3

The convention hall is infested with zoms, but you manage to pluck a signed copy of the book from under the undead author’s nose. The dog returns, and this time you realise it’s just cosplaying as a monster. But its noise attracts the zoms and you’re forced to flee.

Zombie convention

A Red Smile on a White Face 4

The fog’s thick outside and zoms are all around – led by the sinister clown. The only route you can take is into the forest.

Zombies, or statues?

A Red Smile on a White Face 5

Paula’s lost her bearings and can’t find you a route from the forest to the dock. All seems lost – until a noise from the dog points you in the right direction.

Clown on your heels

A Red Smile on a White Face 6

All aboard the ferry as you and your canine saviour set sail for safety. The RuneGaia community are delighted you found the book, and Paula hopes that New Abel might host a game of its own.

Rescued by the hell-hound

A Red Smile on a White Face 7

Escaped Blood Rock with the book I was after – glad I left the killer clown behind!

Paula guides you through a zombified horror convention in search of a rare book.

A Red Smile on a White Face

Janine has summoned you to the woods. With her resources stretched thin and the mysterious countdown still on, she needs your help. A helicopter drone is riling up lots of zombies. She needs you to get ahead of its flightpath and shoot it down.

This is De Luca

No Ordinary Copter 1

You intercept the copter, but it dodges your shots. Janine is confused; this is meant to be an old auto delivery drone. She thought it was reactivated by accident, but clearly someone’s piloting it. You’d better keep on its tail – it’s speeding up.

Incredible evasive manoeuvres

No Ordinary Copter 2

The pilot of the copter contacts you: it’s Amelia Spens, exasperated by your efforts. She’s remotely controlling the drone with its cargo of premium sportswear. She accidentally jettisons some cargo on your head, plus a stowaway zombie. Better dodge it!

A fix on the pilot

No Ordinary Copter 3

Amelia got the drone from a group of traders, who failed to disclose that zombies might’ve sneaked aboard. Unfortunately, it’s headed for her settlement, and the autopilot is now locked in. So now she does need you to shoot it down. You’ll have to intercept it on that hill!

Mildly embarrassing

No Ordinary Copter 4

Janine vents her frustrations about Amelia, who has been causing her headaches. You manage to shoot the copter down, but zombies emerge from the fiery wreckage. You need to run!

On my mark

No Ordinary Copter 5

Janine directs you to some dropped cargo from the copter, which includes a plastic kayak you can use to escape – but only if you can get it to the river before those burning zombies catch you!

Such are the times

No Ordinary Copter 6

You reach the river and push off, escaping the zoms. Janine reflects on Amelia’s current career as an agent of chaos. The ex-PM isn’t even reliably untrustworthy. But at least you’ve saved the day, and managed to grab some fancy footwear from the cargo too.

Without a paddle

No Ordinary Copter 7

Blew up a helicopter. Again. Snatched some fancy trainers from the ex-PM, so Janine’s calling it a win.

A drone is causing zombie chaos. The question is, who’s guiding it?

No Ordinary Copter

You meet up with Jody for a seaside mission to pick up vital farming equipment. She’s got things in hand back at her settlement, but she’s desperate for some sensible company – and you’re it!

Welcome to Poundlins

A Faint Whiff of Zombie 1

Jody wasn’t entirely honest about the mission. You’re here to nab a donkey – but his brays draw zoms and you’re forced to flee them and pursue him.

Stubborn as a mule

A Faint Whiff of Zombie 2

The donkey barrels through a Punch and Judy tent, setting the zombie puppeteer after you. Jody thinks she knows where you can lose him.

Enter Punch stage left

A Faint Whiff of Zombie 3

You’re dodging zombies through an old-school amusement arcade. Jody loved coming to these as a kid. But the games were rigged – and so’s the gun you try to shoot a zom with. Clonking him over the head works, though, and you’ve caught sight of the donkey again.

Crack(ed) shot

A Faint Whiff of Zombie 4

Jody leads you back to the beach. The donkey’s in sight, but he’s running straight towards a group of resort Yellow Coats. They may be smiling, but you can’t let them get their teeth into him.

Mandatory fun

A Faint Whiff of Zombie 5

Finally, the donkey’s caught, but the Yellow Coats are still pursuing. Luckily, Jody has a plan to get rid of them.

Got him!

A Faint Whiff of Zombie 6

Jody leads you into the Poundlins disco. Switching on the lights and music draws in the zoms, leaving you free to escape. The Punch and Judy zombie makes a last-ditch attempt to stop you, until your new donkey friend puts paid to him.
