마이안드로스

마이안드로스(고대 그리스어: Μαίανδρος)는 그리스 신화에 나오는 강의 신으로, 소아시아(현대 튀르키예) 남부 카리아에 있는 마이안드로스강(현대 뷔위크멘데레스강)의 수호신이다.

그는 티탄인 오케아노스와 그의 누이이자 아내인 테티스 사이에서 태어난 아들 중 하나이다. 마이안드로스는 퀴아네, 사미아(안카이오스의 아내로, 페릴라오스, 에누도스, 사모스, 알리테르세스와 딸 파르테노페를 낳음), 칼라모스 및 칼리리에의 아버지였다.

신화

프세우도-플루타르코스가 전하는 이야기에 따르면, 마이안드로스는 페시누스인들과 전쟁을 벌였으며, 승리하면 "그의 성공을 축하하러 가장 먼저 오는 사람"을 신들의 어머니에게 제물로 바치겠다고 서약했다. 그런데 공교롭게도 그가 돌아왔을 때 그를 처음 맞이한 사람들은 그의 어머니, 아들, 그리고 누이였다. 그는 서약을 이행했지만, 너무나 큰 슬픔에 잠겨 강물에 몸을 던졌고, 이로 인해 그 강은 마이안드로스라는 이름을 얻게 되었다. 이 신화와 유사한 이야기는 크레타의 이도메네우스와 입다의 이야기에서도 발견된다.
