Yes, big tech companies give away thousands of online courses for free, and many include a free certificate or badge. Google, Microsoft, Amazon (AWS), IBM, LinkedIn, Meta, Salesforce, X, GitLab, MongoDB, and Cisco together offer more than 10,000 free courses covering AI, programming, data science, cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital marketing, and business. Most live on each company’s own learning platform, so this guide gathers them in one place, organized by company, so you can find the right free course and certificate faster.

These tech giants offer courses mainly to teach people about their products and associated technologies. Because the companies are so expansive, the result is courses for both beginners and power users across a wide range of subjects. If you’re after free IT courses, free certification prep courses, or free tech courses with a certificate or badge, the collections below are grouped by company so you can go straight to the provider you want.

Class Central did the legwork: this article compiles the courses in one place, tested as needed, with a few certificates collected along the way. It is updated over time, so if a relevant platform is missing, flag it in the comments and it can be added.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are big tech companies’ online courses really free?

Yes. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, and others publish thousands of courses that are free to take. Availability changes over time, so it is worth confirming a course is still free before you start.

Do these free courses come with a certificate?

Many do. Amazon (AWS), Microsoft, IBM, LinkedIn, Salesforce, and Cisco offer free certificates or badges on a large share of their courses. Some platforms provide a downloadable transcript.

Are Google’s courses on Coursera still free?

No. After a Coursera policy change in mid-2025, Google’s courses there are no longer free to audit, though most offer a 7-day free trial. Google still provides free courses and certificates through its own platforms, including Skillshop and Cloud Skills Boost.

Do you have to pay for the certificate at the end?

It depends on the platform. On Microsoft Learn, AWS Skill Builder, and Salesforce Trailhead, badges and many certificates are free. Formal certification exams, such as Microsoft’s role-based certifications, usually require payment.

Free Google Courses

@dhawal‘s free Google Analytics certificate

Known primarily for their search engine, their apps — including Gmail and Maps — and for the Android and Google Cloud ecosystems, Google offers over 2,200 online courses available on a range of platforms. These cover their products (Ads, Analytics, GCP) but also broader subjects, such as AI, data science, cybersecurity, and digital marketing.

Google offers most of its courses on Coursera, where, due to changes in Coursera policy in mid-2025 they are no longer free-to-audit. Most have a 7-day free trial.

Free Microsoft Courses, Certificates, and Badges

Manoel’s free Microsoft NLP with Azure free certificate

Microsoft is another big tech generalist, known for Windows, the Office software suite, its Azure cloud computing platform, and in the gaming industry with Xbox, among others. To support and expand the skills related to these and other technologies, Microsoft offers over 3,600 online courses and tutorial videos with 3,200+ currently free.

Microsoft’s courses are primarily available through Microsoft Learn, an interactive, hands-on platform that offers free access to learning paths and modules. Besides, they provide additional courses via Coursera and edX, most free-to-audit. Finally, they offer courses on LinkedIn Learning, which they acquired. You can also watch many free tutorial videos on YouTube.

Learning paths on Microsoft Learn include free badges. By contrast, their certifications typically require payment. In 2023, Microsoft launched a new type of credential, Applied Skills, and these are free for a limited time. Upon completion of an Applied Skill assessment, you’ll receive a free certificate.

Free Amazon (AWS) Courses & Certificates

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the cloud computing arm of the global e-commerce leader, Amazon. To educate users in their cloud technology, AWS offers a substantial number of online courses.

Among the over 14,000 Amazon courses, more than 9,000 are courses, learning paths, and game-based courses with free certificates or badges specifically from AWS. These programs are designed to help learners grasp the fundamentals of AWS services and advance towards more complex applications.

Besides providing extensive resources on cloud computing, the platforms cover broader subjects, such as cybersecurity, data science, generative AI, and algorithms.

Free IBM Courses, Certificates, and Badges

Manoel’s free IBM Intro to Open Source certificate

IBM, a pioneer in the technology industry — known for its contributions to computer hardware, software, and cloud computing — also offers educational opportunities online. On platforms like edX and Coursera, IBM offers over 900 courses with other courses available with a free trial.

IBM Cognitive Class offers over 600 courses and more than 30 learning paths in data science, AI, big data, cloud computing and blockchain. Around 60 courses offer a completion badge or certificate. Check on the Cognitive Class.AI course page for details.

Free LinkedIn Learning Courses & Certificates

My colleague @suparn‘s free LinkedIn Customer Service Foundations certificate (not currently free)

LinkedIn Learning, an extension of the professional networking site LinkedIn owned by Microsoft, offers over 14,000 online courses designed to enhance skills across various domains. Among these, some courses are not only free but also include the benefit of earning a certificate upon completion.

The platform covers a wide range of topics, from business and technology to creative fields. The courses are designed to be practical and applicable, helping professionals stay current with industry trends and develop skills relevant to their career growth.

LinkedIn Learning’s courses are typically created and taught by industry experts and available in several languages, making them accessible to a global audience.

Class Central’s @suparn searched LinkedIn Learning’s catalog and identified those that can be accessed without setting up a subscription. Many offer a free certificate.

He found 115 learning paths offering free certificates, and more than 400 individual courses with free certificates, for a total of about 470 hours of free online learning. Please note, we’re not sure how long these courses will continue to offer free certificates. Courses seem to periodically swap from paid to free and back again.

A LinkedIn Learning certificate is available once you complete videos, quizzes, or exams. To earn a certificate for a learning path, you need to complete all individual courses in the path.

Free Meta Courses, Certificates, and Badges

Manoel’s free Meta Marketing certificate

Meta, widely recognized for its social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, has extended its influence into the realm of online education.

Meta has developed the Meta Blueprint platform, offering free mini-courses to prepare for Meta’s certifications. These courses help individuals leverage Meta’s platforms for marketing, advertising, and engagement. You can also find plenty of free offerings via YouTube.

Some free badges on Salesforce Trailhead

Salesforce, mainly known for its customer relationship management (CRM) software and cloud-based solutions, offers many online learning resources about their products and related skills, such as software development, and AI. These courses are mainly hosted on Salesforce’s Trailhead platform.

Trailhead stands out as a complete platform that embraces gamification and helps you prepare for Salesforce’s certifications. The platform hosts 1900+ free modules split into free learning paths or “trails”. These are geared toward different levels and roles within the Salesforce ecosystem.

Free Twitter / X Courses, Certificates, and Badges

Manoel’s free Twitter / X introductory certificate

X, aka Twitter, extends its operations beyond social media by offering educational content through the X Ads Academy platform, previously known as Twitter Flight School. This platform is dedicated to teaching advertising on X, whether you’re a professional digital marketeer or someone looking to build a following.

X Ads Academy hosts approximately 200 free mini-courses focusing on various aspects of digital advertising on X. Of particular note, about a dozen of these mini-courses include the option to earn a free certificate or badge upon completion.

Free GitLab Courses & Transcript

Some of the free courses available on GitLab LevelUp

GitLab, much like GitHub, offers developers a place to centralize and manage their code. To help developers use their platform, the GitLab team offers a range of free online courses through their LevelUp learning platform.

GitLab University hosts around 90 free online courses. These include “micro-courses” and videos as well as a comprehensive learning path. The micro-courses are good for those seeking quick, focused insights into specific features of GitLab. They don’t include badges or certificates, but since the platform allows users to download a transcript of the courses they’ve completed, you may still demonstrate your learning. Certification exams are not free.

On the other hand, the comprehensive learning path offered on LevelUp does include a free certificate. It encompasses a broad overview of GitLab’s capabilities and best practices, in particular regarding CI.

    Please update Cisco Networking Academy courses. I see in your platform is 10 courses but nowadays Cisco have free courses around 26 courses, you can access via skillsforall.com . Please update I will add courses on my profile later thanks
