Our Mission
International Business Times seeks to be a trusted global authority in business journalism—illuminating how economic power, markets, technology, and institutions shape the world—by upholding truth, fairness, and intellectual independence, and by equipping readers to understand change, exercise judgment, and act responsibly in a complex global economy.
We aim to combine breaking news with analytical depth, data-driven reporting, and long-form journalism that explains how economic forces, institutions, and ideas shape outcomes in the modern world. We pursue truth without narrative distortion and apply consistent standards across our coverage.
Our purpose is to serve the public good by equipping entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and the general public with the insight and perspective required for sound judgment in a rapidly changing world.
IBT's Editorial Principles
High journalistic standards are at the core of what we do. We are committed to treating our readers fairly and giving them the most accurate possible information on the news we cover. Guided by integrity and respect, IBT defends the ideals of truth, freedom of thought, inquiry, and enterprise. Our core ethical principles consist of the following:
1. Commitment to Truth
We pursue factual accuracy, intellectual honesty, and transparency. We report independently, and publish uncomfortable truths when the public interest requires it. We correct errors promptly, distinguish facts from opinion, and resist narrative distortion—whether convenient or costly. We make no selective omission to advance a cause.
⸻
2. Justice and Fairness
We strive for fair representation, proportionality, and due process in our reporting. We assess actions and outcomes using consistent standards, regardless of power, popularity, or ideology.
⸻
3. Freedom, Agency, and Courage
We defend freedom of thought, inquiry, speech, religion and enterprise; We inform, we don't instruct. We present facts, not moral scripts. We trust readers to think and decide.
⸻
4. Service to the Public
We exist to serve readers, decision-makers, and the broader public good. Our journalism is intended to inform, clarify, and empower—not manipulate or inflame.
⸻
5. Economic Responsibility, Meritocracy and Accountability
We treat wealth, authority and influence as accomplishments to be achieved on the basis of merit and as responsibilities, not entitlements. Our reporting evaluates whether those who hold wealth, economic resources, authority or influence employ them with accountability to present and future stakeholders (future generations).
⸻
6. Respect Without Conformity
We consider diverse ideas with seriousness and respect, while retaining the freedom to judge, critique, and dissent.
⸻
7. Intellectual Humility
We acknowledge the limits of our knowledge and remain open to challenging views.
⸻
8. Forward-looking Perspective
Our journalism does not traffic in despair as a business model. IBT views the world with clear eyes and a forward-looking posture. We report hard truths directly, but we do not assume decline is inevitable or that failure has to be the final word. Where facts allow, we highlight constructive responses, learning, and renewal—so readers are informed without being left cynical or dejected.
⸻
9. Moral Integrity and the Social Fabric
We regard social institutions and community life as interdependent foundations of a healthy society, and therefore approach coverage of them with accountability and attention to long-term consequences. Where relevant, informed by historical continuity and intergenerational responsibility, IBT approaches questions of family and gender from a traditional perspective. This perspective provides an editorial framework. We aim to report fairly and accurately on such matters present in society, including on those views that may differ or depart from our editorial perspective.
