Milan welcomed surge of tourists last year.
Milan has achieved a new record for tourism, attracting almost 11 million visitors in 2019, according to Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.
The city of Milan and the greater metropolitan area welcomed a combined 10,861,071 visitors last year, up 9.2 per cent from 2018.
Milan itself welcomed almost 7.5 million visitors in 2019, up 9.4 per cent from 2018, when 6.8 million people spent at least one night as a guest of the city.
The city's tourism councillor Roberta Guaineri told Corriere della Sera: "Milan has found an excellent balance between cultural, services and business offerings", adding: "We also know that those who stay briefly in the city, perhaps for work, subsequently return with their family."
