Sunday, October 4 marked the beginning of Banned Books Week 2026, an annual event dedicated to fighting the rising bans and challenges affecting libraries, bookstores, and schools across the country. The theme of this year’s programming is “Let Books Be–Protect the Freedom to Read.” Book bans and challenges impact readers in different ways. We asked our colleagues, authors, and partners what they have to say:

In honor of NYC Climate Week, Macmillan’s Sustainability team led our third employee volunteer day with Billion Oyster Project on Governors Island. Billion Oyster Project restores oyster reefs in New York Harbor, helping support biodiversity, improve water quality, and strengthen shorelines. Our team got hands-on and built a reef ball that can provide a home for thousands of oysters, while Macmillan’s financial contribution will help support 100,000 oysters in the Harbor. Thank you to the Billion Oyster Project team for welcoming us and showing us how we can contribute to this important work! #ClimateWeek #Sustainability #MacImpact

Last week, Macmillan held our first-ever Day of Service, where employees were encouraged to engage with their communities with virtual and in-person volunteer opportunities. Our colleagues ventured to a Start Lighthouse literacy hub, walked dogs, helped at a food pantry, joined virtual literacy focused sessions with Literacy Partners, and more. We’re proud to foster a culture of service and volunteerism through MacImpact, our corporate social responsibility program. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Today and every day, we remember and commemorate the victims, families, survivors, and first responders, recognizing the lasting impact of this tragedy. Macmillan employees recently came together for the first session of Test Kitchen, a new innovation experimentation series! The kickoff, What's Cooking in the AI Hub?, gave employees a chance to explore internal AI projects, watch live demonstrations, and get hands-on with new tools.
