Dear Sir,
PEOPLE’S PETITION TO UNITED NATIONS TO RE-OPEN THE ISSUE OF SELF DETERMINATION
FOR STATE OF SABAH AND KINGDOM OF SARAWAK
We, the peoples of State of Sabah and Kingdom of Sarawak representative of all races and creeds from different background and religion of our society, are writing to seek the assistance of the United Nations to review the arbitrary and indecorous surrender of our sovereignty by the United kingdom of Great Britain Northern Ireland under Royal Command of Her Majesty The Queen of England, to the Federation of Malaysia on 16th September 1963 and which was sanctioned by the United Nations without exercise of the right of self-determination in contravention of the spirit and letter of the United Nations and Decolonization Declaration adopted by the General Assembly of Resolution 1514 (XV) of the 14th December 1960.
The peoples of State of Sabah (previously known as North Borneo) and Kingdom of Sarawak and Brunei, as former British colonial subjects, first appealed to the United Nations by the Memorandum dated 9th September 1962 signed by Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP), United National Pasok Momogun Party (UNPMP) and Brunei Peoples Party (BPP) whereby it was recommended by the Sub Committee of the Committee on Petitions ‘’The Request For Hearing Contained In This Communication Be Granted’’ (A/AC, 109/PET.46)
This request however remained unaddressed by the United Nations owing to the intervention of historic events which recast the political course of Kingdom of Sarawak, State of Sabah and Nation of Brunei, for the last 51 years.
Whereas Nation of Brunei attained independence on 1st January 1984, State of Sabah and Kingdom of Sarawak have remained under ‘change of status’ stature without national independence up to today; documented as such in the United Nations Trusteeship Agreement listed by the General Assembly as Non-Self-Governing Territories.
We humbly request that the earliest opportunity be given to us for making representations before the United Nations to seek our inherent right to self-determination as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. The Right of Self Determination of peoples is a fundamental principle of Democracy in International Law and this legal doctrine is also embodied in the international Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.
Thank you
Yours Faithfully

Globalization via the digital age is upon us, demanding a new ethics and an intercultural awareness while the dialectics of globalism and cyberspace mandate a committed reflection on what the synthesis between the digital realm and global citizenship entails. In many ways, the borders that previously separated us as citizens physically and culturally have begun to dissipate, replaced by a call for an intercultural accountability and a form of global citizenship that, on one hand, surpasses borders, patriotism, and nationalism alike, but while on the other, demands an understanding and respect for the cultural idiosyncrasies among us, acknowledging the unique existential paradox of universal citizenship that posits each of us as both stranger and citizen on a commonly shared globe.
What is cosmopolitan in the digital age? Is a global digital citizen the same as merely a digital citizen? While talk of digital citizenship has increased in recent years, usually centered on a capitalist drive, encouraging a full electronic participation in society and a responsibility to digital commerce, many questions remain unanswered. Is the netizen the citizen of a democratic state, and of digital democracy? As a citizen of the world interacting online, how will one’s “rights” and “duties” be determined? And are these “rights” universal, and in such a case, what does “universal” mean? What are the legal parameters of netizenship, and what will they be as globalization further takes hold? Is democracy critical to citizenship, or is it not? What are the political landscapes of global citizenship in the digital age? And last of all, is the concept of digital citizenship even tangible? Is it real?
