Every BCG X product starts somewhere. For Andy (Wandi) Lin, it started with a toolbox and a belief that knowing how to fix things matters. The same logic applies when critical equipment is on the line. That's why Field Service & Maintenance AI by BCG X uses agentic AI to take on routine tasks like dispatch, invoicing, and inventory management — giving operations managers the space to focus on complex tasks and performance management. Fiana Kummer's first connection with BCG started long before her career did. At high school, she thought she may study medicine. Then she took part in BUSINESS@SCHOOL - A BCG INITIATIVE, where students explore real companies before developing a business idea of their own. The experience changed the direction of her studies. Years later, Fiana is at BCG and still in touch with Dr. Babette Claas, who knew her at the start of that journey. Hear them look back at where it all began. The people carrying out the heaviest oversight of AI tools are finding it tough: They make more errors and are more likely to want to leave their job. That means work needs to be actively redesigned. And the AI debate needs to shift from technology to people. Find out more by watching Julie Bedard's TED talk: AI Brain Fry Is Real. What Can Leaders do. https://bit.ly/3TVRxmE

The value generated by AI won’t spread evenly. Some sectors will expand their profit pools. Others will compress. As shown below, established sources of competitive advantage fall along two dimensions: the depth of the protective moat and its durability under AI. The advantages in the top-right quadrant all compound with use, deepen with scale, and grow more valuable as AI increases the cost of building competitive advantage from scratch. Here’s who wins as AI rewrites competitive advantage: https://on.bcg.com/4yXVgPy

Every CEO has a long-term strategy. Protecting the time to think about it is the challenge. The second edition of the BCG CEO Insomnia Index shows how near-term demands are squeezing CEO bandwidth and long-term thinking, with more than half (54%) often feeling pressure to prioritize near-term performance over long-term growth. Who is applying this pressure? They may sit much closer to the CEO than most would guess. Read the full analysis from BCG experts: https://on.bcg.com/3VCY6Lp

Smaller brands now drive most of the growth in US consumer goods categories, and established players are under pressure to rethink their approach. BCG research looks at how breakout brands gain ground by focusing on consumer needs, building demand before expanding distribution, and embedding AI into their operations. Slow growth and weak consumer demand in Asia Pacific are making it harder for retailers. And near-term growth is largely centered around existing stores and customers. In a BCG survey of 50 senior retail leaders in the region, two in three respondents named like-for-like store performance as a key source of growth. Over the long term, AI will create new opportunities to reshape the retail model. Here’s how Asia Pacific retailers can prepare: https://on.bcg.com/4ymB2OB Report authors: Abhay Varma, Imelda W., Seokhyung Lee, Xiaohui(Joanna) Li, and Eren Akyayli.

A two-week supplier delay used to take weeks to model. Rolls-Royce can now see its full impact, on production, cash, and profit, in an afternoon. Civil Aerospace and Defense share the same suppliers, factories, and engineers. For years, much of the planning occurred in isolation. Rolls-Royce is closing that gap with Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) and an Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) system, giving every team, from shop floor to finance, one shared view of demand, supply, and the numbers behind them. The technology is only 30% of the story. The other 70% is people: new ways of working, process change, and engagement tracked as closely as the planning metrics themselves. Future-built companies are already engineering AI value. BCG’s 2026 Applied AI Index breaks down what separates these companies into a formula with three core elements: strategic clarity plus applied AI can translate AI ambition into transformative impact. These future-built companies scale five times as many AI workflows to full value creation as laggards do. Discover the details in the full report: https://on.bcg.com/4z6WOXm

Kai-Fu Lee, chairman and CEO of Sinovation Ventures (创新工场) and founder and CEO of 01.AI, joins BCG Institute global leader Nikolaus S. Lang to unpack where companies go wrong on AI: why off-the-shelf models can't crack your hardest problems and how to surface the knowledge already buried in your organization. Drawing on his new book,AI Native, Lee argues AI is commoditizing human intelligence, making this the first and last intelligence revolution. Also covered: AI costs, the skills leaders will still need, and whether AI is an existential risk. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/dQUV_R3B
