France in Flames

Mark Gullick

2,143 words

The year 1968 was a significant one for the European Left. In Czechoslovakia, Warsaw Pact troops invaded the country in August to put an end to the so-called “Prague Spring” uprising. After a long period of Tory rule, Labour had recently come to power in the UK, which was then still a relevant and powerful nation. A few months prior to the Czech occupation, student riots in Paris had begun to spread across France. The protests were for the usual vague and inchoate student reasons, anti-capitalist and anti-authority, and for a few days the situation across the country was on a knife-edge. The “soixante huitards”—the “68ers”—almost brought down De Gaulle’s government, and Le General consulted with the French military at Baden-Baden to discuss sending in the troops. It was a time of blood, bullets, and bombs. Two philosophers present in Paris in 1968, Roger Scruton and Guillaume Faye, were profoundly affected by what they saw during the riots. Scruton sneered at the “students with their toy barricades.” The French are notorious for needing very little reason for a riot, but this time, it is different. That was the white, indigenous French. Now that French riot season has come around again, it is in a very different demographic context.

The current rioting that has spread across France’s major cities began in French schools, dozens of which have now been burnt down and with hundreds of those still standing remaining closed. The disorder is predicted to spread to universities when a national “day of action” takes place on Tuesday. As the trouble continued into the weekend, over 3,000 arrests had been made, 90% of which were of minors. Hundreds of police officers, first-responders, and teachers have been injured. The legacy media are running the line that this rioting (or “protesting,” as they coyly put it) was a response to under-funding in the education sector, but this is a front for a deeper agenda. The main agitators are a mixture of far-Left militants and second- and third-generation Muslims, who are increasingly forming alliances across Europe and are piggybacking on various social concerns in order to justify starting trouble.

You can buy Jonathan Bowden’s Western Civilization Bites Back here.

Adam Sage, Paris correspondent for the Times of London, described the situation in the French capital as “completely out of control.” Restore Britain’s defense spokesman, Henry Bolton, called it “Leftist ideology pursued by privileged zealots.” Dutch political commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek is more forthright, pointing to “an Afro-Arab Islamic army” attacking white Christian France through these aggravated school protests. And the story would not be complete without a soundbite from Elon Musk, who predicts “widespread slaughter in Europe.” This may not be the Muskian hyperbole it seems. It is remarkable that no one has died in the current troubles, as the violence is not the usual throwing of bottles and rocks.

There are educational shortfalls in France, certainly. As with the UK, school buildings are still in use which should have been torn down years ago, class sizes have grown, and secondary schools are missing teachers, with half not turning up for work. Why could that be? Would you want to teach a class of apes who are only allowed to read the Koran and the Hadith, and are not happy about white French students learning anything else? Would you expect to go to work as an educator and end your working day having been punched in the face? No. In the suburban lycées of Paris, a streaming and selection system had recently been introduced, which obviously discriminated against Muslims because it is academically meritocratic and therefore measures intelligence. Muslims are a low-IQ breed, and no meritocratic system will favor them. France used to be known as the country of the baccalaureate, the only European curriculum with a compulsory philosophy component, but that is all changing now. Unfortunately, the teaching unions in France are just as Leftist as they are everywhere else in Europe. As the rioting intensified, French teachers formed protective rings around students to protect them from the police. Schools which burnt down included those named for Nelson Mandela, Victor Hugo, Paul Eluard, and Vincent van Gogh. The monkeys who burnt them down will have heard of Mandela, but they won’t know the others. The French education system has also become very centralized, with everything run from Paris. This is as metropolitan and Leftist as London, and gone are the days of provincial schools teaching traditional subjects. France, like the rest of Europe, has changed.

France’s population has grown by around 15% in the last 30 years, and that is not because of l’amour. The white French currently breed at well below the replacement rate, just as is the case in every other European country. The Muslim population of France is now over 10%, which tends to be when real problems start for a host country. As in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and other European countries, there are Muslim enclaves forming in cities as Islam balkanizes and ghettoizes. The Parisian arrondissement of St. Denis, which was once the home and final resting-place of French Kings when France had a monarchy, is now 90% non-white. Today, it has a coal-black Mayor, Bally Bagayoko, who was filmed celebrating the chaos his people are causing and dancing in the street with rioters. He was escorted to his people by white French police officers. He told the press that violence was “sometimes justified.” This is the same mantra from ’68, except that then it was white French liberals saying it, not third-world imports. A fire-engine was sent to put out fires in St. Denis. It was set alight and destroyed, with the fire crew coming under attack. Elsewhere, a fireman attending a blaze was himself set alight. It should be noted that Mayor Bagayoko is Malian, and currently under investigation for embezzlement.

Another aspect of the French riots which the MSM will not touch is that they are clearly blancophobic. Many white teachers have been beaten simply for their color. A white female teacher in Paris was attacked with an improvised flame-thrower, a spray-can and a lighter, which were ignited in her face. Two white teachers were doused in petrol, although remarkably they were not set alight. Another blonde French teacher was beaten by a mob of men. After this, of course, more white teachers will leave the profession. They will be replaced by Muslims, and before you know it the Koran will be the only book on the curriculum. The police attacked were also white, including a female police officer who showed, once again, that women should not be in any police force (other than at a desk job) when she was run to ground by a mob yelling “You filthy bitch! Let’s kill her!” A white officer was chased onto waste ground and kicked repeatedly in the head. White civilians who have nothing to do with either education or policing are being targeted, with reported home invasions of white properties by Tunisians in particular. France, of course, had colonies, and has long had to deal with Tunisians and Algerians. Not all Algerians are negative social capital, it must be said. Both Albert Camus and Jacques Derrida were Algerian.

Churches were burned down as well as schools, although that has long been a sport in France. In Corsica, birthplace of Napoleon, an ancient statue of the Virgin Mary was destroyed by two giggling baboons. The alliance between the far-Left and Muslims is the most toxic in Europe largely because it is focused on attacking whites. These are not “Islamists.” There is no such separate faction in Islam. All Muslims are Islamists. There is no third way with Islam, no tertium quid. This is an Islamic attack, the exact insurrection predicted for the UK. The British MSM, it goes without saying, have hardly mentioned the French rioting. The BBC seemed to blame spontaneous combustion, with a headline on their website reading; “Fires break out at French schools as students protest nationwide.” The rioting is already spreading to Austria and Belgium.

Europe is marching steadily to war. It won’t be a civil war, because the definition of civil war is that it is internecine. This is a war against Islam. The Ottomans are back in town, they are just wearing trainers and shapeless Adidas “clothing” this time around, and wielding scaffolding poles rather than scimitars. This problem is not going away any time soon, and it will not be confined to France.

Britain is ill-equipped for this type of chaos, should it spread from France, the old enemy, across the English Channel. The Foreign Secretary is a Muslim, as is the Mayor of London. The Leader of His Majesty’s Opposition is a Nigerian anchor-baby. The UK is broke and broken. If schools start burning, the only people who will do time in jail are those who mention the fact on social media. Anthony Burgess predicted over half a century ago, in A Clockwork Orange, that violent prisoners would be released early to free up space for political prisoners. This is precisely what the British government are now doing, the difference being that the wave of criminals currently leaving jails have not been rehabilitated using the Lodovico Treatment.

The Left in Britain will be emboldened by events in France. Shabana Mahmood, the Muslim Home Secretary, has recently announced that the government will address the problem of illegal immigration by providing “safe and legal routes” for legal immigration. The first two countries to benefit will be Afghanistan and Palestine, whose immigrant men commit more crime, sexual offenses in particular, than those from other countries. And the Islamic army grows as reinforcements arrive.

You can buy The World in Flames: The Shorter Writings of Francis Parker Yockey here.

In France, the Macron government responded to the violence with what Le Monde newspaper called “retreat.” De Gaulle knew in 1968 that if you make concessions to the mob, you both inspire them to more violence, and you lose your position of authority, but that is the route the current government chose. Macron himself was at a climate change conference in Spain when the trouble started, where he seemed happy to remain. Les optiques are not good for Macron. In seven months’ time, France will hold a Presidential election, and one beneficiary of this collapse of order is France’s Right-wing party, Rassemblement National (“National Rally”), and Marine Le Pen’s poll lead is widening as rioting continues. The French deep state has done everything they can to keep Le Pen away from power, including forcing her to wear an ankle monitor after a trumped-up charge, and also trying to force her to undergo psychiatric testing.

The aforementioned Mayor of St. Denis is a member of LFI, La France Insoumise (“France Unbowed”). This is the only credible French Left-wing party who might challenge Le Pen in the upcoming election, and are described even by Wikipedia as “left-wing to far-left.” Their leader, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, naturally supported the violence. One of the clearest political truths of the modern age is that Left-wing parties not only have no problem with violence, they see it as justified and even necessary.

It is hard to feel sorry for the French. If you allow apes into your country, you can scarcely be surprised when it becomes a jungle. France is a nuclear-armed G7 country, not some failed African state. It is one of the richest countries in the world, both financially and culturally. The French may tend towards arrogance and snobbery as a people, but their nation is one of the finest in history, despite occasional outbursts of savage violence. But this is not 1789 or 1968. This is very different.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold. Once the mob scents blood, it may not end with guillotines and heads on pikes, as it did in 1789, but it is difficult to see violence at this level continuing without loss of life. Some of the rioters are not fully human, they can’t be. A mixture of low-IQ imports with an innate tendency to and love of violence, a hatred of whites and their education system, and the acquiescence of those who are paid to protect and serve the public will surely become more rather than less unruly. How will France react? “The Fall of the Bastille,” wrote Carlyle in Notes on the French Revolution, “may be said to have shaken all France to the deepest foundation of its existence.” It is more than possible that the events of the last few days will do the same. A French citizen who saw the violence first-hand reported on social media that applications for hunting permits—which allow ownership of high-powered rifles—are rising steadily, as is membership of gun ranges. If this orgy of rioting, arson, looting, and violent attacks becomes a shooting war, it may spread outside France and across Europe. Tuesday may be a flashpoint, the outcome of which will decide whether or not the Fifth Republic goes from “Vive la France!” to “Vive la guerre!”

Nationwide rioting in France Autumn 2005; same again in summer 2023. So what’s new?

This time it’s worse. Each year, there are riots. Each year it gets worse, but not yet hot enough to alert the frog in the pot.

Unlike in 1968, non-Whites are “protesting” against the existence of the White race. That’s the big difference. Every year, there are riots by migrant-vermin, financed and encouraged by the usual suspects, who also organize Antifa and BLM riots in the US. In France, the soixante huitards never learn. They suffer from a death-wish.

Dr. Gullick curiously failed to mention that most of the ringleaders among les soixantes-“retards” were, like their Bolshevik godfathers, Jews.

And that’s because the piece wasn’t about Jews. For the Goy Division, of course, Jew-obsessives such as yourself, everything is about Jews. I would rather spend time with Jews than simpletons such as yourself. Good day to you.

          That’s the Jared-Taylor-Syndrome.

That’s a good analogy. It won’t be a nuclear war with Russia that causes a civilizational collapse. It will be the immigrants that the west allows in.

As a Frenchman and longtime reader of CC, I am delighted that my homeland has the dubious privilege of making headlines.

Rioting is undeniably a French tradition, but it has clearly become more widespread in recent times. It has now become a seasonal ritual, marked mainly by dates that were once festive (Music Day on June 21, Bastille Day on July 14, and New Year’s Eve) or the sports calendar (the Africa Cup of Nations and matches by the “Parisian” soccer team are all opportunities for young “French” people to express their excitement through massive bonfires and late-night visits to local shops).

Despite their scale, these recurring events elicit barely any media coverage. One need only look at the coverage of the major riots of the summer of 2023—the largest since 2005—which ravaged France for a week, at a cost exceeding one billion euros. They have already faded from the collective memory, so accustomed are the French to disorder.

Not only are the riots more frequent, but they no longer spare any part of the country. Twenty years ago, the unrest was limited to the “great replaced” outskirts of the capital and the major cities in the east of the country. Now, every town with more than 10,000 residents has its own troubled neighborhood ready to erupt at the slightest national spark.

The article mentions the role of Islam, but I don’t believe it is the main factor behind these recurring acts of vandalism. The rioters indiscriminately mix North Africans and Sub-Saharan Africans, Muslims and Christians alike. Either they stir up trouble in their neighborhoods to keep the authorities at bay and strengthen the local grip of various drug cartels, or they carry out raids in the very heart of cities to engage in looting. They’re even coming up with new methods, as in the summer of 2025 when about a hundred “young people” robbed numerous motorists near Limoges. Circle the cars, prepare to repulse the Zulus!

What sets the demonstrations that have been ongoing for the past week apart is the mix of protesters. There are three distinct groups participating.

First, there are ordinary high school students, who may have legitimate grievances regarding the lack of resources in education, the shortage of teachers, overcrowded classrooms, the highly opaque higher education admissions system, or the lack of prospects in a country adrift economically (all problems greatly exacerbated by immigration).

Next, the immigrant thugs, who are content to attack public buildings, school staff, and the police with complete impunity while reaffirming their hatred of France and the native population—all while skipping class.

Finally, there are the professional agitators from left-wing parties (notably La France Insoumise, but also a whole host of anarchist, Trotskyist, or Muslim micro-parties), unions (of students, teachers, and judges), and associations (which, incidentally, are mainly funded by public money…).

Usually, these last two forces operate separately. Leftists do not participate in looting, and thugs take no interest in social struggles (such as the large demonstrations over retirement of spring 2023). However, there is currently an unprecedented convergence of thugs and leftist activists. The former provide the numbers and the muscle, while the latter provide the leadership and the ideological narrative for the media. The activists thus hope to achieve a “convergence of struggles” (to use a common expression on the French far-left) to bring down a French society they view as racist, capitalist, and crypto-fascist. The worst part is that this rhetoric is primarily voiced by native-born French people… There are countless interviews and testimonials from students who describe themselves as “bourgeois and white,” expressing solidarity with these poor African thugs who are victims of systemic oppression.

That said, I don’t think the situation will tip the balance. The rioters do not enjoy popular support. The authorities are letting them run amok if the centers of power aren’t threatened, but they won’t hesitate to crush the movement if it poses even the slightest risk to the ruling classes.

France will simply continue its slow path toward balkanization. It is probably one of the European countries most affected by racial denial, and almost no political party intends to address it. The National Rally is not a nativist party. It asserts that Islam is compatible with French identity, rejects the concept of remigration, and talks about assimilating the millions of non-white people who are poisoning our daily lives. It has even broken off its alliance with the AfD, which it considers too radical!

As this article mentions, consider buying a hunting rifle to protect yourself and your family. Even if you don’t hunt and have to buy a hunting license, so be it. The French author, Pierre Boulle, wrote the novel Monkey Planet. By the time it became a movie, the story had changed quite a bit. However, the basic idea is still the same.

Good comment, but how do ordinary French feel? Leftists are biologically defective, but what about the non-woke White French majority? Are these people finally awakened to the horrors of nonwhite diversity? Do average French support at least ending all nonwhite immigration, and deporting illegal aliens and asylees? How many people support forced remigration of ALL nonwhites?

Well, unfortunately, the average French person is completely brainwashed. The situation is getting worse year after year, whether in terms of public safety or the economy. Every day is marked by a litany of crimes committed by non-whites, with the complicity of the justice system and the indifference of the media. Today, the homicide rate in France is three times higher than in neighboring Italy! That was unimaginable just a few decades ago.

The neighborhood where I live used to have a reputation for being quiet. Now we see more and more thugs, drug addicts, and illegal immigrants hanging around. Women no longer feel safe on the streets. There are regular snatch-and-run robberies. Several elderly women in my building have been victims of them. The solution? Don’t go out at night, and don’t wear jewelry! And everyone just puts up with it. Sure, it’s a nuisance, but it’s a small price to pay to continue benefiting from this non-European workforce that provides low-cost nurses, delivery people, cooks, nannies, housekeepers, and so on.

Moreover, most people are unable to make the logical connection between immigration and crime. Racial statistics are strictly prohibited, and figures broken down by nationality are swept under the rug. And even though everyone can see with their own eyes that the rioters and criminals in the country are invariably Arab or Black, woe to anyone who dares to say so publicly. Because they are French citizens—and therefore just as French as any native-born citizen—there can be no question of making distinctions based on origin.

Right-wing parties therefore address the issue from the perspective of lenient judicial practices and education. Left-wing parties speak of socioeconomic inequalities and discrimination. None of them mention immigration. Last month, when the PISA rankings were released, the entire political class cried out about France’s decline. Not a single party mentioned the explicit data in the rankings showing that “French” students of non-European descent lag behind Europeans by an average of two years…

To sum up, the vast majority of French people remain apathetic in the face of our daily nightmare, and remigration is a distant dream.

I agree with our French friend from Jerusalem:

There is nothing to expect from Marine Le Pen and given the abrutissement of the brainwashed French she will probably never come to power – her father tried it for decades. There is even more hope that the AfD will change things in Germany.

But I don’t see from where he gets his optimism that the authorities

…won’t hesitate to crush the movement if it poses even the slightest risk to the ruling classes.

The riots are already de-legitimizing the ruling classes.

And if ‘the rioters do not enjoy popular support‘ is no criterion in France. French riots never were enjoying popular support, they weren’t in 1789, weren’t in 1968, nor in the many strikes that paralyzed France and cost them a fortune.

As in 1789, the French are terrorized by a radical minority, only this time of foreign origin.

Thank you for your response. There is no doubt that the French elites have lost their legitimacy in the eyes of the public today, but this does not concern them much as long as their grip on power remains unchallenged. They are indifferent to the current riots because they have absolutely nothing to do with them. The rioters are burning down municipal buildings, destroying street furniture, looting stores, and attacking the police. So what? None of this affects the ruling classes in the slightest. They live in secure neighborhoods, far removed from this violence. They aren’t even concerned about the cost, since most of the expenses will be covered by private insurance and local taxes. The elites will only react if they are directly attacked. We saw this with the Yellow Vests movement. When the Yellow Vests began attacking government buildings, chasing after the presidential car, and destroying multinational corporations’ highway toll booths and traffic enforcement cameras—which bring in so much revenue for the central government—the response was relentless. All protests, even the most peaceful ones involving families, were ruthlessly suppressed.

The media coverage, moreover, reflects the threat felt by the elites. Right now, television networks and newspapers are pandering to the rioters. They’re just poor kids expressing their legitimate anger in a slightly excessive way. The fact that some of the rioters are children of the upper middle class who are taking this opportunity to let loose before falling back into line also plays a role. On the other hand, when the Yellow Vests in rural France rose up, journalists couldn’t find words harsh enough to describe them—that motley crew of fascists, hicks, and racists threatening our beautiful democracy.

As for the lack of popular support for the current riots, I admit that wasn’t a good argument on my part. Revolution is always the work of a minority, to quote José Antonio Primo de Rivera.

The UK is broke and broken. If schools start burning, the only people who will do time in jail are those who mention the fact on social media.

The same is the case in France – they attempted to throw a victim of sexual assault by a Tunisian migrant in jail.  In the end she got off “only” with a fine.

A judge named Youssef Badr gave journalist a suspended sentence and fined him 30,000€ for highlighting public information about pro-illegal immigration lawyers.

The British are even worse. They’re an island. That should protect them. But no, of course not! They send out teams in boats to “rescue” the drowning niggers. It’s the same as importing rats with the bubonic plague. Monte Python rules Britain.

It is the evolutionary defectiveness of whites. White preservationists must come to grips with this fact: huge numbers of whites are biologically defective, and are slated by nature for eventual elimination. Our only issue is whether the normals will allow the defectives to destroy all of us in the process.

Left loves to riot. I could never support mass protests, I don’t care what the cause for it is and what are the goals. Rioters never look human to me. Never. Put the tone down and you will know what I mean.

I would respectfully disagree. Le Pen, I think, genuinely loves France. That said, I have been suckered by so many politicians I have lost count.

Not the first person to have made that point here, it’s becoming a theme. It would be a shame. I have a great attachment to France, and Le Pen seems to love it. We shall see.

I hope I’m wrong. I think I am basing it on the fact she has softened on some positions. And I shouldn’t equate Marine to Meloni. I knew nothing about the latter before her election so she could have been a plant. LePen, on the other hand, comes off as a genuine patriot, a knowledgeable proud Frenchwoman.

Time to rewatch “The Battle of Algiers” a surprisingly fair and balanced view of the race war, clash of Civilizations in then French Algeria in the 1950s.

To compliment this GOAT movie , I recommend reading Paul Johnson’s “Modern Times” the chapter on decolonization after World War II.

    And…

” The Battle of the Casbah: Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism in Algeria 1955-1957 ”
by Gen  Paul Aussaresses . This tough as they get Hu White French counter terrorism officer tells what he did to Win the Battle of Algiers and that included using torture.

He is unrepentant and proudly declares that he would use terrorism again to defeat the Arab terrorist and keep French Algeria (White) French.

Idiot, same old, same old Amurikun Conservatives to who claim:

“The French never Fight” – Lies.

“The French would be speaking German now if we hadn’t saved their arse in World War II” – total lies.

The Germans didn’t make the French stop speaking French, they didn’t make the Dutch stop speaking Dutch, they didn’t make the Danes stop speaking Danish.

IMO most of the Reagan Bush Boomer Conservatives who went hook, line and sinker for all these Jew Neo Con wars in Iraq, Syria SERBIA and now Russia can’t even identify the European county of the Dutch that speak Dutch.

White French have always been great IMO – Charles the Hamer Martel saved France, Europe from Muslim Moor conquest enslavement, Napoleon the tough Corsican ended Jewish Masonic reign of terror in the French Revolution. And yes the French under French patriots such as Marshal Paton collaborated with the Germans to resist Jewish Bolshivism, Communism, defense White Western Civilization. Why shouldn’t they? Why Shouldn’t we?

Whenever leftists invoke supposed colonial guilt in the context of mass migration, it should be pointed out that North Africans invaded and attempted to colonize France first. The French were also victims of the Barbary slave trade.

What is occurring today isn’t righteous payback for colonial rule; it’s a repeat of invasion and enslavement by North Africans.

“It is hard to feel sorry for the French. If you allow apes into your country, you can scarcely be surprised when it becomes a jungle.”

    Indeed.
The core argument of de Gaulle, handing Algeria (which was three French departments at the time) back to the Arabs, was:

“si tous les Arabes et Berbères d’Algérie étaient considérés comme Français, comment les empêcherait-on de venir s’installer en métropole, alors que le niveau de vie y est tellement plus élevé ? Mon village ne s’appellerait plus Colombey-les-Deux-églises, mais Colombey-les-Deux-Mosquées !”

Basically: When they are Algerian citizens, they can be denied entry into France.

Dr. Gullick is one of my favorite CC writers, and I read all he writes. But he’s nodding here:

Not all Algerians are negative social capital, it must be said. Both Albert Camus and Jacques Derrida were Algerian.

Let us put aside the overrated Camus, about whose literary worth serious men can debate and disagree. Surely we can all agree that the deconstructionist Derrida was the epitome of “negative social capital”, far more destructive of French and Western culture than some riotous savage in 2026. We can also agree that neither the French Camus nor the Jewish Derrida were “Algerian” except in natal origin.

    Hi guys,

As a Frenchman, it’s terrific to see riots in every big city. It’s getting worse year after year about every main topic : education, employment, relationships, economy and politics…

Every potential tourist in Europe must skip France because French economy doesn’t deserve money from educated and rich people.

Leftism has brainwashed most of the citizens… Marine le Pen is totally a joke.
